August School Meeting: Welcoming 2,300 New Students of Class K69

On August 5, 2024, Party Secretary and Rector Hoang Anh Tuan chaired the meeting of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) chaired the August 2024 university briefing meeting.
Attending the Conference were the Vice President, Secretary of the School Council, Vice Rectors, leaders of institutes, faculties, departments, and centers under the School's administration, and representatives of the functional departments of the School's administrative block; leaders of the Party and Union Offices and the School's Trade Union.
The conference heard a report from Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy (Head of Administration and General Affairs Department) on the achievements in July, while also emphasizing the key tasks to be implemented in August, including: Completing preparations for the successful organization of the Conference of Officials and Employees and the Summary of the 2023-2024 school year (scheduled for August 23); regular university enrollment; enrollment for students of the Specialized High School; welcoming postgraduate and doctoral students for the first intake of 2024; completing some infrastructure repairs before the start of the new school year, etc.

The Head of Administration and General Affairs noted: The Conference of Officials and Employees and the Review of the 2023-2024 School Year are important events in August. Heads of units are requested to arrange their time and assign staff to attend fully according to the invited participants.
Dr. Dinh Tien Hieu (Head of Student Affairs and Student Support Department) shared and noted that the main plan for August is to organize a welcoming ceremony for new students on August 25th; on August 26th, students will begin the Student Orientation Week, which will end before the September 2nd holiday.

The conference also heard Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong (Vice Rector) highlight some achievements in training: enrollment in the 10th grade of specialized high schools exceeded the assigned target; the number of students and doctoral candidates admitted in the first phase was very promising. The Vice Rector also requested that units actively communicate and introduce training programs to complete and exceed the postgraduate enrollment target assigned by Vietnam National University, Hanoi for the second phase (around October 2024).
 
Based on a summary of some outstanding results in cooperation and development activities and scientific research, Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong emphasized the key tasks for August: The Cooperation and Development Department, in coordination with relevant units, will evaluate the effectiveness of internationalization activities in training over the past period to draw lessons and propose solutions to promote it in the future. Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong also added: The university will establish a department to support international students, located within the Cooperation and Development Department, to professionalize and specialize, and improve the effectiveness and quality of international cooperation activities in training; establish an Organizing Committee for the scientific conference: 30 years of training and research in social sciences and humanities; review all plans for publishing publications to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the university's tradition and the 30th anniversary of its founding, and submit them to the university leadership for approval before official implementation.

Regarding administrative and management work, Vice Rector Lai Quoc Khanh shared further information about the renovation and upgrading activities of the facilities that will be implemented and completed in August 2024: Implementing the Wifi Project Phase 2 to provide coverage throughout the school with stable access speeds; arranging, organizing, and optimizing the functionality of classrooms in buildings BC and I; finalizing the renovation plan for the facades of buildings C and H, etc.

Based on listening to the opinions and exchanges from the Vice Rectors, representatives of the functional departments, and training units, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan concluded:
- We request that heads of units organize meetings on the development and implementation of operational tasks fully, effectively, and seriously; the dissemination of conclusions and policies of the University must be smooth and timely, ensuring that all staff members of the unit are fully and accurately informed.
- Personnel work: Consolidate and appoint one Deputy Principal of the High School for Social Sciences and Humanities based on the unit's proposal, aiming towards improvement and autonomy projects, in line with current educational trends.
- The enrollment process for new students of cohort K69 needs to be thorough, scientific, and professional. At the same time, the Student Affairs and Student Support Department should act as the focal point, working with relevant units (Youth Union, Administration and General Affairs Department, etc.) based on the cooperation agreement with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, VNU Hanoi, to effectively implement the free dental examination/consultation program for new students of cohort K69, and provide free dental care for all disabled students of the University (throughout their time studying at the University).
- Continue to strengthen training for administrative staff throughout the University to enhance professional capacity and ensure flexibility in performing tasks (taking on assistant positions such as training assistant, student affairs assistant, etc.). Heads of units are requested to pay attention and send staff to attend the training (scheduled for early September 2024) in full and with the correct composition.
- Continue to improve training methods: encourage and support lecturers to promote innovation in teaching methods, apply information technology and AI to teaching (strengthen online teaching and teaching through course websites).
- Renovation and upgrading of facilities: Ensuring optimal use of space and functionality while strictly adhering to state regulations and procedures.
- Finance: Diversify revenue sources and optimize expenditures; carefully balance spending to ensure adequate support for staff and student activities while adhering to financial management regulations.
