The Conference of Faculty and Staff Delegates for the 2011-2012 academic year of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was held on September 24th. Attending the conference were Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan – Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, representatives from functional departments and member units of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and over 200 faculty and staff members representing various units within the University.The conference aimed to discuss the summary report of the 2010-2011 academic year and the plan, and to elect the People's Inspection Committee for the 2011-2013 term. On behalf of the school's leadership, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Son - Vice Rector - presented the summary report of the 2010-2011 academic year and the plan for the new academic year. During the past academic year, the school achieved many outstanding accomplishments in various areas of activity, notably: In the 2010-2011 academic year, the school received many prestigious medals and awards from the Party and the State; the first cohort of bachelor's degree students trained under the credit system achieved a graduation rate of over 90%, with 99.3% achieving a grade of "good" or higher, including 5 students graduating one year early and 30 students graduating one semester early. The school has completed the evaluation of dozens of research topics and projects, including 5 state-level scientific projects that achieved excellent results.

The report also outlines the direction and key tasks for the new academic year 2011-2012: the theme for the academic year is "labor discipline, academic order; high-quality training and research." The direction focuses on continuing to develop training programs under strategic objectives, international joint programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; planning and transforming all current training programs; promoting scientific research activities, and standardizing management and operational activities within the school. Building and developing a qualified staff is the fundamental solution. The specific key tasks are as follows: + Implementing the planning and transformation of training programs towards integration, strengthening the interoperability between training disciplines; effectively implementing existing strategic programs. Developing a plan to open 1-2 additional training disciplines/specializations under strategic objectives; continuing to expand joint training programs; and developing one additional dual training program. + Focus on training and developing qualified staff; organize strong research groups. + Implement the development of 1-2 projects and several state-level scientific research topics; actively and proactively participate in the research program on Hanoi (phase 2); chair several important international interdisciplinary conferences; increase the publication of articles in international journals. + Organize end-of-term evaluations; continue to upgrade facilities; increase revenue to create a basis for improving the income of staff and employees. + Promote innovation in university governance, increase the use of information technology in administrative, management, and operational work; strengthen discipline and academic culture, and improve the quality of work performance. The conference then heard and discussed reports on: the financial report for the 2010-2011 school year, a summary of opinions expressed at the conference of officials and employees of the units, and a report on the activities of the People's Inspection Committee for the 2010-2011 school year. The conference also voted and elected the People's Inspection Committee for the 2011-2013 term, consisting of 5 members.

Speaking at the conference, Professor Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan – Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi – highly appreciated the achievements of the University in the 2010-2011 academic year. The Director outlined several key tasks for the 2011-2012 academic year that the University needs to focus on: pioneering the transformation of training programs, both in line with output standards and creating inter-discipline; selecting disciplines that meet international standards and specializing in specific fields; focusing on training and developing management staff and teachers to meet international standards; concentrating on scientific research that practically serves society; and implementing breakthrough solutions to achieve the academic year plan, especially solutions related to political and ideological matters. Representing the University leadership, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the University – acknowledged the contributions of the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The Rector affirmed and emphasized that the school will focus all resources to strive to achieve the goals and tasks of the 2011-2012 academic year. The conference also awarded the Third-Class Labor Medal to one collective (Faculty of Information and Library Science) and one individual (Ms. Pham Ngan Trinh – Party Committee Office); awarded Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister to one collective (Department of Management and Scientific Research) and four individuals (Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the School, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang – Chairman of the School's Trade Union, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh – Faculty of International Studies, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong – Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Management); and awarded Certificates of Merit from the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi to 11 collectives and 8 individuals. The Principal's Certificate of Merit awarded 18 collectives and 82 individuals for their outstanding achievements in the 2010-2011 school year. At the end of the conference, 100% of the delegates unanimously voted in favor of the draft resolution of the Conference of Delegates of Staff and Faculty for the 2011-2012 school year.
