2. Eligibility requirements:
2.1 Regarding qualifications
- Must have graduated or met the requirements for graduation from a university (or equivalent or higher qualification) in a relevant field.
- For research-oriented programs: applicants must have graduated from university with a GPA of at least "Good" or higher, or applicants with a GPA below "Good" must have scientific publications (books, textbooks, articles published in specialized scientific journals or reports published in conference proceedings) related to their field of study and research.
- Meeting the work experience requirements as stipulated in the curriculum framework of master's degree programs.
- The university degree in a relevant field awarded by a foreign educational institution must be accompanied by a recognition document from the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training.

2.2 Regarding foreign language proficiency:
Since 2022, the foreign language exam has been removed according to Circular No. 23/2021/TT-BGDĐT dated August 30, 2021, issued by the Minister of Education and Training on the promulgation of regulations on admission and training for master's degree programs. Applicants must meet the foreign language proficiency requirements of the program they are applying for, evidenced by one of the following specific diplomas or certificates:
- A university degree or higher in a foreign language, a foreign language pedagogy degree, or a university degree or higher where the foundational and specialized courses are taught in a foreign language;
- A university degree or higher from training units within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, issued within the last two years, with a foreign language proficiency requirement meeting the requirements for admission to master's programs; and candidates who already possess a foreign language certificate meeting the proficiency requirement before graduating from a university-level program.
- One of the foreign language certificates demonstrating equivalent proficiency.Level 3or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam and recognized by VNU, valid for a period of 2 years from the date of the foreign language certificate exam to the date of application.
- Applicants who are foreign citizens and register for a master's program taught in Vietnamese must have a Vietnamese language proficiency level of at least Level 4 according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, or have graduated from a university (or equivalent) where the program is taught in Vietnamese; and meet the requirements for a second foreign language as stipulated by the training institution (if any), except for native speakers of the language used in the training program. The admission of foreign nationals or Vietnamese citizens residing abroad to study at Vietnam National University, Hanoi is carried out according to the Regulations on attracting and managing international students at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, issued under Decision No. 4848/QD-ĐHQGHN dated December 18, 2017.
- Master's degree programs enrolling students from 2022 onwards have a foreign language proficiency requirement of at least Level 4 or equivalent according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam.

3. Admission methods
3.1 Traditional entrance examination:
- The master's entrance exams consist of two subjects: a Fundamental exam and a Foundation exam.

3.2 Direct admission to master's programs:
a) Conditions for direct admission:
Candidates applying for master's programs at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will be considered for direct admission if they meet the following conditions:
- Regarding university degree qualifications: meet one of the following requirements:
+ Graduated from a regular university program with a GPA of "Good" or higher within 12 months (as of the application submission date) from the following programs of Hanoi National University: talent, advanced, international standard, high-quality (state-funded), programs accredited by reputable international accreditation organizations (AUN-QA, ABET...) or Vietnamese accreditation organizations recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training (for enrollment cohorts still within the validity period).
+ Graduated from a regular university program with a GPA of Excellent or higher within 12 months (as of the application submission date) from standard, high-quality training programs according to Circular 23/2014/TT-BGDĐT of Hanoi National University.
+ Graduated with a GPA of Excellent or higher from a relevant undergraduate program at Hanoi National University within the last 12 months (as of the application date).
Bonus points for scientific research achievements (see regulations in point b of this section) may be added to the candidate's cumulative GPA for direct admission consideration.
- Regarding foreign language proficiency: possess foreign language proficiency that meets the requirements of the training program, as evidenced by one of the diplomas or certificates specified in section 2.
b) Regulations regarding the points awarded for scientific research achievements:
- For student scientific research projects:
+ Awarded at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi or Ministry of Education and Training level: first prize: 0.2 points, second prize: 0.15 points, third prize: 0.1 points, honorable mention: 0.07 points.
+ Awarded at the school or faculty level: first prize 0.1 point, second prize 0.07 points, third prize 0.05 points.
- For scientific articles published in ISI journals: 0.3 points; articles published in Scopus/other international journals: 0.2 points; articles published in the proceedings of international/national scientific conferences/seminars: 0.15 points;
- Students with many achievements can accumulate bonus points, but not more than 0.5 points.
c) Timeframe for direct admission: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities will conduct direct admission for 2022 before 12:00 PM on April 11, 2022, immediately after the application review deadline, and will announce the results to candidates no later than one week before the entrance examination.
Candidates who do not meet the direct admission criteria will be transferred to the entrance examination format in the first admission round of 2022.
d) Direct admission quota: not exceeding the quota allocated for each major.
e) Principles of direct admission: consider only the eligible candidates as specified in point a) of this section, selecting from highest to lowest scores until all quotas are filled.
f) Direct admission application fee: Candidates applying for direct admission pay the same fee as candidates applying for regular admission.

2. Eligibility requirements:
a) General requirements for applicants:
- A clean personal record, not currently serving a criminal sentence or subject to disciplinary action at the level of a warning or higher.
- I am healthy enough to study.
- Must have graduated with a Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree with a GPA of Excellent or higher in a relevant field, or have graduated with an equivalent qualification at level 7 of the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework in certain specialized fields relevant to the doctoral program. Degrees awarded by foreign educational institutions must undergo recognition procedures according to current regulations.
- Candidates must demonstrate research experience through a master's thesis from a research-oriented program and published works as required. For candidates with an applied-oriented master's degree or applying from a bachelor's degree, they must be the author or co-author of at least one article in a specialized scientific journal or one scientific report published in the proceedings of a peer-reviewed national or international scientific conference or workshop, with an ISBN related to the research field or topic, and recognized by the professorship/associate professorship council of the discipline/interdisciplinary field.
- The research proposal should clearly state the proposed topic, research field; reasons for choosing the research field and topic; a brief overview of the research situation in that field domestically and internationally; research objectives; some key research contents; research methods and expected results; reasons for choosing the training institution; implementation plan during the training period; the candidate's experience, knowledge, understanding, and preparation for undertaking the doctoral dissertation. The proposal may also suggest a supervisor.
- A letter of recommendation from at least one scientist holding the title of professor, associate professor, or a doctorate in science or a PhD, who has collaborated professionally with the applicant and is knowledgeable in the field the applicant intends to research. The letter of recommendation must include comments and assessments of the applicant regarding:
+ Moral character, abilities and scientific research attitude, and professional qualifications of the applicant;
+ For scientists who meet the criteria for supervising doctoral students and agree to act as thesis supervisors, additional comments should be included regarding the urgency and feasibility of the research topic and content; and clearly state the ability to mobilize doctoral students for research topics and projects, as well as the available funding for the doctoral students' research activities.
+ Other comments and levels of support and recommendations for the candidate to pursue doctoral studies.
- There must be an official letter of nomination from the direct management agency in accordance with current regulations on training and professional development for civil servants and public employees (if the applicant is a civil servant or public employee);
- Meet the experience and seniority requirements specific to each training specialization (see section e).
- Commitment to fulfilling financial obligations during the training process as stipulated by the training institution.

b) Applicants who are Vietnamese citizens must meet the foreign language proficiency requirements of the training program, as evidenced by one of the following diplomas or certificates:
- A university degree or higher awarded by a foreign educational institution, a branch of a foreign educational institution in Vietnam, or a Vietnamese educational institution to a full-time student in a foreign language;
- A university degree in a foreign language or foreign language pedagogy awarded by a Vietnamese educational institution;
- One of the foreign language certificates equivalent to the required levelLevel 4or higher (according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam), recognized by VNU Hanoi and still valid as of the application date (see the list of certificates and issuing institutions in the section on foreign language requirements for master's applicants in Section I).
c) Applicants who are foreign citizens and register for a doctoral program taught in Vietnamese must have a Vietnamese language proficiency level of at least Level 4 according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, or have graduated from a university (or equivalent) where the training program is taught in Vietnamese; and meet the requirements for a second foreign language as stipulated by the training institution (if any), except in the case of being a native speaker of the language used in the training program.
d) Other requirements specific to the unit and training program.
- Candidates applying for doctoral training under the Ministry of Education and Training's Project 89 must meet the selection criteria in Article 5 of Circular 25/2021/TT-BGDĐT dated September 8, 2021. - A minimum of one year of professional work experience in the field of the major for which you are applying (calculated from the date of the university graduation certificate to the date of enrollment) is required for the following majors:Information Science – Library Science, Sociology.
- A minimum of two years of professional work experience in the field of the major you are applying for (calculated from the date of the university graduation certificate to the date of enrollment) is required for the following majors:Journalism, Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism (no experience required for those with a Master's degree in Philosophy or a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy with a GPA of 1.5 or higher), Scientific Socialism (no experience required for those with a Master's degree in Philosophy or a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy with a GPA of 1.5 or higher), Sino-Vietnamese Studies, Archival Studies (no experience required for those with a Master's degree in Archival Studies or a Bachelor's degree in Archival Studies with a GPA of 1.5 or higher), Science and Technology Management.

IV. Duration of Master's and Doctoral Programs
- Master's degree: The standard training duration is 2 years;
- PhD: The standard training time for those with a master's degree is 3 years, and for those with a bachelor's degree with a distinction or higher is 4 years.
