On April 10th, the Student Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with Pharmaton Company, organized a talk for students on the topic "The Impact of Stress During Exam Season".Dr. Nguyen Huu Thien gave a presentation with a wealth of useful scientific information about stress – its nature, mechanisms, causes, signs, and how to control stress to find balance in life. According to him, stress is a very normal part of life, a reaction of the body to stressors. Stress occurs due to environmental, family-social, physical causes, and even negative personal thoughts. The manifestations of stress vary from person to person; it can be sudden and unusual, such as crying, anger, loss of appetite, insomnia, etc., or it can be subtle, such as anxiety and sadness, which over time can lead to breakdown, depression, confusion, and loss of mental control. In terms of health, stress is not beneficial, but the extent of its positive or negative consequences depends on each individual's level of experience. Dr. Nguyen Huu Thien noted that stress is most common among students. The reason is that this age group experiences many changes and developments in terms of psychology, physiology, and physical health, and faces a lot of pressure from studies and work. One of the direct and common causes of stress in young people is the conflict between overly high goals and ideals and their ability to achieve them. In addition, when they fail, they often have negative thoughts. Therefore, the doctor advises: "To be happy, you should practice positive thinking. One of the principles to make our lives simpler and more comfortable is to set standards that are appropriate to our abilities." The expert also believes that young people should first consider stress or tension as a normal part of life that everyone faces. The important thing is to know how to prevent and control it. Some principles to know include: learning to recognize stress; reducing stress through relaxation activities, exercise, and sports; knowing how to accept reality; lowering standards to accept differences; sharing with family and friends; Firmly saying "no" to overexertion; maintaining a positive and optimistic attitude; having a balanced diet… Also at the talk, Dr. Nguyen Huu Thien and the students discussed specific methods to reduce stress when facing exams.
