On April 9, 2013, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu (Vice Rector of the University) received Mr. Boonrong Pongstiensak – Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Vietnam. Also present were Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu – Head of the Department of External Relations and International Training Cooperation, and Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung – Director of the Center for Religious Studies.
On April 9, 2013, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu (Vice Rector of the University) received Mr. Boonrong Pongstiensak – Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Vietnam. Also present were Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu – Head of the Department of External Relations and International Training Cooperation, and Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung – Director of the Center for Religious Studies.During the meeting, both sides discussed opportunities for collaborative research and exploration between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and universities and scientists in Thailand in the field of Buddhism in particular and religious studies in general. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities currently has cooperative relationships with over 10 major universities in Thailand and engages in various collaborative activities such as student and faculty exchanges, joint participation in conferences, and joint research. Associate Professor Vu Duc Nghieu stated that the University plans to promote the development of Thai Studies. In the near future, this field will be separated into an independent training program, meeting the self-development needs of this science as well as the current human resource needs of Vietnamese society. The Vice Rector believes this is a favorable context to further promote comprehensive cooperation between the two sides. The Ambassador emphasized his desire to build strong and broad cooperative relations between Vietnamese and Thai universities, affirming his willingness to support and assist in all aspects the development of Thai Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
