Workshop on social development management in the Central Highlands
The workshop is an activity under Project TN3/X07 “Social development issues and social development management in the Central Highlands” chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Pham Ngoc Thanh, taking place on April 12, 2013. There are 22 reports from experts and scientists in many fields: policy science, management science, development science, culture, ethnology, sociology, etc.In the report introducing the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Ngoc Thanh affirmed that the Central Highlands is a region with an important strategic position in terms of economy, politics, national defense, security, culture, society, and environment; a land of many fluctuations, deeply affecting the development of the whole country and the region. One of the important issues, of immediate and long-term significance, affecting the entire process of solving common problems of the Central Highlands is how to develop and manage social development to achieve sustainable development goals. That requires new perceptions, new social policies for the Central Highlands community; requires innovation in thinking and new approaches in planning and implementing policies for the Central Highlands, making the Central Highlands truly the "common home" of ethnic groups on the path to sustainable development. The workshop focused on the main contents: methodological viewpoints and approaches to research on practical social development and sustainable social development management in the Central Highlands; international and domestic experiences on social development and social development management in specific regions during the renovation process; specific issues and recommendations for sustainable social development in the Central Highlands. The reports had quite diverse approaches: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Khien (National Academy of Public Administration) mentioned the impact of social policies on the sustainable development of the Central Highlands; Prof. Dr. Pham Tat Dong mentioned social security issues - difficulties and solutions; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Thanh (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) discussed poverty, inequality, and challenges in sustainable development of the Central Highlands; Prof. Dr. Le Thi Quy (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) pointed out the role of families in the development of ethnic minority regions in our country; Dr. Bui Van Quyen talked about the main impact of science and technology on the development of the Central Highlands from 1986 to present; Dr. Tran Van Hai (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) said that it is necessary to strengthen the legal system to meet the development requirements of the Central Highlands at present; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duy Thieu (Museum of Ethnology) analyzed and identified the traditional cultural values of the Central Highlands; Associate Professor, Dr. Le Si Giao (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) compared social management in the Northwest and the Central Highlands in many aspects; Dr. Buon Krong Tuyet Nhung (University of the Central Highlands) emphasized the relationship between customary law and development management in the Central Highlands during the period of renovation and international integration; ...
