This year's reports reflect diverse research content, from traditional topics on print, online, and television to topics on press photography, public relations, advertising, and public interaction... There are even very new research directions that reflect the current practices of Vietnamese press and media, such as the relationship between information on online newspapers and information on social networks; research on public relations activities of enterprises in the top 500 Vietnamese enterprises on websites; press reports on climate change issues...

Commenting on the Faculty of Journalism’s student research this year, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Huyen (Deputy Head of the Faculty) said: “The quality of the reports is much better than in previous years. Many projects were carefully and thoroughly done. Students used multimedia tools to present their work confidently and attractively. In particular, their confidence comes from their firm grasp of the research topic.”

In fact, for many years, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication has considered student research as one of the important tasks besides the training task. This activity brings benefits to both students and lecturers. Student research helps students gain a deeper understanding of the knowledge they have learned. Through guiding students in research, lecturers can develop their new research ideas.

Student research activities are integrated into the training program. Right from the time of studying scientific research methods and communication research methods, students have had the opportunity to write subject essays until their thesis. Many student research works have been developed and promoted from theses, with the help and assessment of the Faculty Council. Thus, the accumulation of professional knowledge and research methods has become an inseparable process in the learning process. This helps students gradually improve their skills in scientific research activities. After two years of implementing this integrated model, the effectiveness and quality of student research activities have been significantly improved.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Huyen also shared: “The biggest impression that can be seen through the student scientific research activities of the Faculty this year is the serious attitude and true passion of the students for research. Many students are willing to try new research directions, many students, despite encountering great difficulties in research practice, are still not discouraged, many have solid works equivalent to a graduation thesis... Obviously, if they are not passionate, they will not invest much effort and determination to pursue their topic to the end. This shows self-surpassing, demonstrating the courage and perseverance needed by scientists. That is the true beauty of research”.

At the end of the Conference, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication awarded prizes to the following works:

First Prize: Using websites in public relations activities at enterprises in Vietnam (Bui Thi Lan)

Second Prize: Information on climate change in Lao Dong newspaper (Ngo Duc Tinh), The relationship between social networks and online newspapers on current news (Vu Van Hung)
