Journalists Association of the Institute of Journalism and Communication: "The membership is not large but plays a very important role"

That was the comment of Mr. Ho Quang Loi (Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association) at the First Congress of the Journalists Association of the Institute of Journalism and Communication for the 2018-2020 term, held on December 20, 2018.

The first congress of the Journalists Association of the Institute of Journalism and Communication for the 2018-2020 term was attended by journalist Ho Quang Loi - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

According to Mr. Ho Quang Loi, in the context of a market economy and digital media trends, teaching and researching journalism and media plays a particularly important role in keeping up with the new developments of global media, while also producing generations of journalists with strong political will, good professional expertise, and especially imbued with and strictly adhering to the conventions of journalism ethics.

The Vietnam Journalists Association is a professional socio-political organization, currently has more than 23,000 members, belonging to 63 provincial and municipal journalist associations, 18 inter-associations and 206 affiliated associations.

During the past term, members of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Association (now the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training) actively participated in the Association's activities, especially contributing ideas to the 2016 revised Press Law (effective from January 1, 2017), contributing ideas to build 10 articles of the Regulations on professional ethics of journalists, participating in the National Press Festival (winning the A prize for impressive display booth), winning the award for excellent scientific article, participating and winning the High Quality Journalism Project award, etc.

The Secretariat of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Association for the 2018-2020 term was launched.

In addition, the Journalists Association of the Institute of Journalism and Communication has achieved many encouraging achievements in training and scientific research. The Institute of Journalism and Communication is one of the few units under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities that is currently training 02 majors (Journalism and Public Relations), training 03 levels (from bachelor to doctorate) in Journalism, implementing a variety of training types (full-time, part-time, international cooperation, training Master's degree with application orientation in localities, short-term training, ...).

In the past year, the Institute has developed a High-Quality Training Project, oriented towards application in Journalism (bachelor's level), a Master's program in Journalism and Media Management, and a Master's program in Journalism and Media Economics (in collaboration with the University of Economics, VNU Hanoi). The programs have been accepted by VNU Hanoi and are expected to enroll students in 2019.

The Institute's Branch members have been implementing 03 State-level scientific research projects, 01 Nafosted Fund project, and many ministerial-level, national university-level, school-level projects...

At the same time, the Association has been implementing VTV, VOV, Zing News Incubator activities to further connect theoretical and practical training, between training institutions and employers, to provide practical support for students in career orientation and finding quality jobs after graduation.

The first congress of the Institute of Journalism and Communication elected the Secretariat of the Association for the 2018-2020 term, consisting of three members. Of which, Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong (Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication) was elected as Secretary of the Association, MSc. Phan Van Kien as Deputy Secretary and MSc. Le Thu Ha as Member.
