
The School's Trade Union awarded scholarships to students of Hoang Nong Primary School.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the University's tradition, on September 29, 2015, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU Hanoi, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang - Chairman of the University's Trade Union, returned to Dai Tu (Thai Nguyen) to express gratitude to the officials and people there for their dedicated assistance to the university during the years of the resistance war against the US for national liberation.
During this trip, in order to encourage and motivate the students in this area, the delegation from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities directly visited and awarded scholarships to disadvantaged students at two primary schools in Dai Tu district, totaling 140 scholarships, each worth 200,000 VND. Of these, Hoang Nong Primary School received 70 scholarships, and Van Tho Primary School received 70 scholarships, along with 1,100 notebooks and 200 ballpoint pens. In addition, the delegation prepared 6 boxes of candies and snacks as gifts for the students of Hoang Nong and Van Tho primary schools to share with their teachers on this occasion.
During discussions with the leaders of the two primary schools, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Xuan Khang, Chairman of the Trade Union of the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities, expressed his deep gratitude to the officials and people of Van Tho commune, Dai Tu district, for their dedicated support and assistance to the teachers and students of the University in overcoming difficult times to successfully complete their teaching and learning tasks. He also personally invited representatives from Van Tho commune to attend the grand celebration of the 70th anniversary of the tradition and the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities on October 6, 2015, at the National Convention Center.

The school's labor union donated 1000 notebooks and 200 ballpoint pens to Van Tho Primary School.
Unable to conceal his joy and honor at welcoming the delegation from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr. Nguyen Van Am, Principal of Van Tho Primary School, thanked the School Board and all members of the Trade Union for their concern for the students of Van Tho and expressed his hope to welcome the delegation from the University on future occasions.
Next, the delegation from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities visited and held discussions with the leadership of the People's Committee of Van Tho commune. There, the delegation had the opportunity to look back at images of the university's teachers and lecturers during the evacuation period. Those students have now become high-ranking leaders of the state and Hanoi, such as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Propaganda Department Phung Huu Phu, and Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi…
With outstanding achievements by both faculty and students, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was honored to receive the title of Hero of Labor and the Ho Chi Minh Order from the President of Vietnam.
In November 2005, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited and planted a commemorative tree at the People's Committee of Van Tho commune, where he had studied during his evacuation.
Fifty years ago, when the US launched its first air and naval bombing campaign against North Vietnam (1965-1968), to avoid the devastation caused by the war, Hanoi University, the predecessor of the current University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, evacuated to Van Tho commune, Dai Tu district, Thai Nguyen province to continue teaching and learning. Thanks to the dedicated support of the local officials and people, the teachers and students overcame those difficult years to successfully complete their work.
