Meeting with former teachers on the occasion of the Lunar New Year

On January 10, 2020, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a meeting with former teachers of the University on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2020 and celebrated the longevity of veteran teachers.

Principal Professor Pham Quang Minh said that in the past year, the School achieved many achievements in all aspects of its activities but also faced many challenges.

Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Principal of the School, on behalf of the Board of Directors, briefly presented the results that the School's staff achieved in the past year.

Regarding the organization of staff, on October 9, 2019, the Hanoi People's Committee signed a decision to establish the School of Social Sciences and Humanities under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This event has attracted public attention because it has created another high school with the mission of selecting and nurturing talented students, promising to help create a source of high-quality input students for university. Last year, although the standards for selecting professors and associate professors were increasingly strict, the school still had 1 more professor and 4 associate professors, bringing the total number of professors and associate professors working at the school to 108 out of a total of 380 staff and lecturers.

Teacher Nguyen Van Ham - Vice President of the Association of Retired Teachers presented the Association's activities in the past year.

Regarding training, the School has organized enrollment for 03 high-quality and socialized programs according to Circular 23 of the Ministry of Education and Training, including Journalism, Management Science and Information Management. The Japanese Studies major has its first independent enrollment. It is expected that in 2020, the School will continue to open an independent Korean Studies major and a Cultural Studies major, increasing the number of undergraduate training programs to 28. The training programs are also adjusted towards integration and interdisciplinary to meet social needs in the new development stage, as well as expand adaptability and job opportunities for students.

Teacher Vu Duong Ninh - Chairman of the School's Retired Teachers Association congratulates veteran teachers on their 80th, 85th, 90th, and 95th birthdays.

Regarding scientific research activities, last year, VNU Hanoi, VNU Ho Chi Minh City and University of Technology entered the top 1000 prestigious universities in the world for the first time. Contributing to the overall achievements of VNU, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities had over 500 scientific research works and scientific articles published. The school participated in and edited more than 10 publications.Vietnamese National Historyand 10 episodesNational Chronicle.

Regarding international cooperation, in 2019, the School continued to sign and newly signed nearly 30 cooperation documents, bringing the total number of international partners to more than 400 units. Notably, the cooperation program with the European Union and ASEAN countries to build a tourism program linking countries; cooperation with Facebook to develop a Digital Thinking subject taught in universities in Vietnam.

In addition to the outstanding achievements, the Rector also shared the challenges that the school is facing in the context of increasing competition between domestic and foreign universities, between the public sector and the private sector and between universities themselves; the trend of university autonomy leading to the need to reform units towards streamlined and efficient operations; pressure from the 4.0 Technology Revolution... Last school year, the school recruited more than 2,000 bachelors, more than 400 graduate students and 50 PhD students. The training structure of Bachelors, Masters and PhDs in the school is still very different. This is a challenge to the goal of building an international research university. In addition, the number of international publications of the school is still modest. In 2019, the school had 80 articles published in international journals, including 20 articles in ISI and Scopus journals. In addition, the school also faces difficulties with facilities and cramped campus...

2020 is a year of many important events for Vietnam in general and for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular. The University will hold the 28th Party Congress in May 2020. Rector Professor Pham Quang Minh expressed his hope that generations of veteran teachers will continue to be the spiritual support for the staff, students and trainees of the University; continue to care and contribute ideas to help the University complete its development goals in the coming time. The Rector Professor also sent wishes to the former teachers and their families for a new year of good health, peace, prosperity and happiness.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Ham - Vice President of the Association of Retired Teachers, representing the leaders of the Association of Retired Teachers, summarized the activities in 2019 and proposed directions and tasks for 2020. Last year, the Association organized two tours to Tam Chuc Pagoda and Truc Lam Tay Thien Yen Tu Zen Monastery for members; organized a scientific seminar "Celebrating the 129th anniversary of Uncle Ho's birthday and 50 years of implementing his Testament - Journey of Vietnamese heritage" on May 29, 2019... The above activities created opportunities for members to meet, exchange and share information. Some officials in the Association of Retired Teachers who are still healthy and passionate about the profession are still actively participating in postgraduate teaching, guiding students to successfully defend their Master's and Doctoral degrees; writing research articles to send to specialized journals at home and abroad; publishing monographs...

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Ham also, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Association, sent thanks for the attention of the School's leaders and wished health, happiness and success to all staff, students and trainees of the school on the occasion of spring.

Next, Professor, People's Teacher Vu Duong Ninh - Chairman of the School's Former Teachers' Association, on behalf of the Association, congratulated the veteran teachers at the age of over 80.

This is an annual activity organized to visit and express gratitude to generations of leaders, staff who have taught, worked and contributed to the school on the occasion of the New Year; it is an opportunity for the school's leaders to report on the achievements of the year and listen to the contributions of former teachers for the future development of the school.
