Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil to Vietnam visits and works at University of Social Sciences and Humanities

On the afternoon of April 8, 2022, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received Mr. Fernando Apparício da Silva (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Vietnam) and Ms. Juliana Benedetti (Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of Brazil in Vietnam) for a working visit.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan introduced an overview of the history of formation, outstanding achievements, and key goals in training and scientific research of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. He emphasized: “The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a core unit of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, with a tradition of more than 60 years. The University is focusing its resources to achieve the goal of becoming a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research university by 2035 with a team of excellent, leading experts; developing a number of new training majors and specialties, pioneering a core role in training and research at regional and international levels. To achieve that goal, expanding cooperation in many fields with countries, educational and research organizations around the world is one of the strategic solutions that the University's Board of Directors highly values”.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (School Principal) was pleased and honored to welcome delegates from the Brazilian Embassy to visit the school.

Brazilian Ambassador Fernando Apparício da Silva expressed his joy at visiting one of the most famous and traditional schools in Vietnam. The Ambassador shared that although the University of Social Sciences and Humanities currently does not have an official cooperative relationship with any university or research institute in Brazil, based on the current good friendship and cooperation between the two countries, in the coming time, the Brazilian Embassy as well as the Ambassador himself will act as a bridge to promote the cooperative relationship, especially in the fields of training and scientific research activities, which are the strengths of the University.

Also at the meeting, Ambassador Fernando Apparício da Silva respectfully invited the Rector and scientists of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to attend the online seminar: "200 years of Brazilian independence: geopolitics from the process of independence and Brazilian exception", held on May 11, 2022. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan happily accepted and pledged to send an expert in history and geopolitics to attend the seminar.

At the end of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan thanked the Ambassador personally as well as the Brazilian Embassy for their attention to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and hoped that in the coming time, through the Embassy's connecting role, the University will establish diverse and effective cooperative relationships with universities, research institutes, and educational organizations in Brazil.

SOME MILESTONES IN VIETNAM – BRAZIL DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

  • On May 8, 1989, Vietnam and Brazil signed an agreement to establish diplomatic relations, opening a period of long-term, stable cooperation for bilateral relations.
  • In 2007, Vietnam and Brazil officially upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive partnership, and bilateral relations between the two countries have become increasingly diverse and deeper.
  • As of 2021, Vietnam and Brazil have signed 15 bilateral agreements in many fields such as health, science and technology, maritime transport, aviation services, etc.
