The research fellowship program invites scientists in the humanities and related fields to submit research proposals covering various aspects of this topic (proposals in curriculum development and performing arts are not accepted). Recipients will teach an undergraduate course during each semester of the fellowship program and conduct their research. The fellowship includes a living allowance of US$46,500 and health insurance.

HApplication instructions

The Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Humanities, part of the Penn Humanities Forum at the University of Pennsylvania, accepts applications from all scholars who have earned a doctoral degree within the past eight years. Applicants must provide a copy of their doctoral degree or a certificate confirming they will receive their doctorate before December 2008.

During their research at the University of Pennsylvania, scholarship recipients have the opportunity to pursue their research goals, participate in the weekly Mellon Research Discussions on the Penn Forum (Tuesdays, 12:00 to 14:00), and give a research presentation. In addition to conducting research, scholarship recipients are required to teach a university course for one semester in a specific field of study: one course for freshmen and one course for sophomores.
