Opening of the 2013-2014 school year

On September 21, 2013, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held the Opening Ceremony of the 2013-2014 academic year with the participation of many generations of teachers, scientists, students and trainees of the University. Attending the opening ceremony were Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Kim Son (Vice President of VNU) and representatives of functional departments and units inside and outside VNU.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) reviewed the outstanding achievements in the 2012-2013 school year: The school successfully transformed 23 university training programs and 54 postgraduate training programs according to output standards, opened many new training majors and majors to meet social needs, built 129 more double-degree training majors, increased the proportion of postgraduate students to over 35% of the total student population of the whole school. In the field of science, the school successfully bid for 12 scientific topics and state-level protocols, had 4 scientific works receive the VNU Outstanding Scientific Program Award, many international scientific conferences created great resonance, published more than 600 scientific articles, of which 30 were published in international journals and conferences. The school continues to play the role of an important policy advisory hub for Party and State agencies. The School’s Policy Advisory Council has been proposing to Party and State agencies many important recommendations related to the development of Vietnam’s Social Sciences and Humanities. In the field of international cooperation, the School has signed many more cooperation documents with major universities in the world and expanded international training programs. With these achievements, the School was recognized as an excellent unit of VNU in the 2012-2013 school year.

In the 2013-2014 school year, the University will focus on important tasks: continue to effectively implement programs under the NVCL, find innovative solutions and increasingly improve the quality of training in all systems; deploy existing research topics with quality and on schedule, especially focusing on building the Northwest research program and many other key and interdisciplinary research programs; accelerate the progress of training and fostering qualified staff, find solutions to attract highly qualified staff to work; expand cooperation with advanced universities; innovate university administration; strengthen work and study discipline...

The Principal also sent congratulations and messages to the new students of the QH-2013-X course: please take advantage of the opportunity to study at a school with a rich tradition, with a team of excellent scientists to accumulate the knowledge and skills necessary for future development and integration, train your personality, know how to live humanely and have the ambition to contribute to the development of society and the community.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh has officially beaten the drum to open the 2013-2014 school year with many expectations and wishes for a new school year with more breakthrough and outstanding achievements; a more creative, proactive, positive and dedicated spirit of the collective of teachers, scientists, students and trainees of the whole school.

Next, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son (Vice President of VNU) delivered a congratulatory speech to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on this solemn occasion. The speech affirmed the long tradition, academic prestige and great scientific heritage accumulated over the development periods as valuable assets that have created the position and reputation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities today. Continuing that tradition, in the 2012-2013 school year, the staff and students of the University continued to make important contributions in the fields of science and training, which were recognized and highly appreciated by VNU.

In the coming time, the Vice President of VNU also suggested that the University should perform well the following tasks: One is to continue to create a democratic, objective, modern working environment, promote creativity and dedication, promote available intellectual resources as well as attract high-quality scientific human resources to serve its activities; Two is to focus on developing strong research groups, promoting and exploiting better the strengths of basic scientific potential in the field of social sciences and humanities, closely combining training and scientific research, implementing the application of social sciences and humanities; Three is to pay attention to the planning of training majors/specializations in accordance with the general planning of VNU; Four is to continue to strongly innovate both the program, content, teaching methods, organizing the teaching-learning process, testing and assessment towards promoting learners' capacity and internationalizing the training process; Five is to expand international cooperation relations with leading higher education institutions; Sixth is to thoroughly apply the method of management according to output products.

At the opening ceremony, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities awarded the new students with the highest entrance exam scores of the QH-2013-X course and the students with the best academic achievements in the 2012-2013 school year.
