Opening of the 2013-2014 school year

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) reviewed the outstanding achievements of the 2012-2013 academic year: The university successfully converted 23 undergraduate and 54 postgraduate programs to meet output standards, opened many new majors and specializations to meet social needs, established 129 dual degree programs, and increased the proportion of postgraduate students to over 35% of the total student body. In the field of science, the university successfully bid for 12 state-level scientific projects and protocols, had 4 scientific works awarded the Outstanding Scientific Research Award of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, participated in many international scientific conferences with great impact, and published over 600 scientific articles, including 30 published in international journals and conferences. The university continues to play a key role as a policy advisory body for Party and State agencies. The University's Policy Advisory Council has been proposing many important recommendations to Party and State agencies regarding the development of social sciences and humanities in Vietnam. In the field of international cooperation, the University has signed numerous cooperation agreements with major universities worldwide and expanded its international joint training programs. With these achievements, the University was recognized as an outstanding unit of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi for the 2012-2013 academic year.

During the 2013-2014 academic year, the University will focus on the following key tasks: continuing to effectively implement programs under the National University's strategic plan, finding innovative solutions and continuously improving the quality of training for all programs; implementing existing research projects with quality and on schedule, especially focusing on developing the Northwest research program and many other key and interdisciplinary research programs; accelerating the training and development of qualified staff, finding solutions to attract highly qualified personnel; expanding cooperation with advanced universities; innovating university governance; strengthening work and study discipline…

The Rector also sent his congratulations and advice to the new students of the QH-2013-X cohort: He encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunity to study at a prestigious university with a team of excellent scientists to accumulate the necessary knowledge and skills for future development and integration, cultivate their character, learn to live humanely, and aspire to contribute to the development of society and the community.

Professor Nguyen Van Khanh officially inaugurated the 2013-2014 academic year with high expectations and hopes for a new year filled with even more groundbreaking and outstanding achievements; and a spirit of creativity, initiative, positivity, and dedication from the entire faculty, scientists, students, and trainees of the university.

Following this, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son (Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi) delivered a speech congratulating the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on this momentous occasion. The speech affirmed the rich tradition, academic prestige, and significant scientific heritage accumulated throughout its development as valuable assets that have built the current position and reputation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Continuing this tradition, in the 2012-2013 academic year, the faculty and students of the University continued to make important contributions in the fields of science and training, which were recognized and highly appreciated by Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Looking ahead, the Vice Rector of VNU also suggested that the University should effectively carry out the following tasks: Firstly, continue to create a democratic, objective, and modern working environment, promoting creativity and dedication, developing existing intellectual resources, and attracting high-quality scientific personnel to serve its activities; Secondly, focus on developing strong research groups, further developing and exploiting the strengths of basic science potential in the field of social sciences and humanities, closely integrating training and research, and implementing applications of social sciences and humanities; Thirdly, pay attention to the planning of training majors/specializations in accordance with the overall plan of VNU; Fourthly, continue to strongly innovate the curriculum, content, teaching methods, organization of the teaching-learning process, and assessment in the direction of developing learners' abilities and internationalizing the training process; Fifthly, expand international cooperation with leading higher education institutions. Sixth, thoroughly implement the output-based management method.

At the opening ceremony, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities awarded prizes to the new students with the highest entrance exam scores of the QH-2013-X cohort and those with the best academic achievements in the 2012-2013 academic year.
