The opening session of the workshop was held in the auditorium on the 8th floor of building E.

Attending the seminar were Mr. Tanizaki Yasuaki (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam); Mr. Shimo Tsuji Shigeyoshi (Vice CEO of Toshiba Corporation); Mr. Shirai Makoto (Chairman of Toshiba International Foundation); Mr. Fujita Shinya (Chief Representative of Asia Pacific Company in Vietnam); and Mr. Nguyen Phu Binh (Former Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan).

In his opening address at the conference, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) mentioned the increasingly important position of Asia as a dynamically developing region, which has been integrating many conditions to become a strong developing region, capable of holding a leading position in many important areas of world political and economic life. In this context, Japan is an Asian country of particular importance, one of the world's leading economies, playing a leading role in the region's development. Through economic activities, science and technology, and cultural exchange, Japan has been contributing to promoting development and enhancing understanding among Asian countries. In that sense, this conference will be an opportunity for Vietnamese, Japanese, and international scientists to share their thoughts and understanding of an "Asian Era," the role of Japan, and of all Asian countries in the context of Asia's rise and its increasingly important contributions to the world.

The Rector also expressed sincere gratitude to the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and relevant agencies, funding organizations, universities, and research institutes in Japan for their cooperation and assistance to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities over the years. Thanks to this, the University has continuously improved the quality of its Japanese Studies program, establishing a leading position and reputation in training and research in this field in Vietnam.

Following that, Mr. Tanizaki Yasuaki (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam) delivered a speech on the history and prospects of Vietnam-Japan and Japan-Asia relations.

The Ambassador emphasized that the Vietnam-Japan relationship is a "strategic partnership" and "currently in its best state in history." The relationship between the two countries is built on a solid foundation through exchanges across all fields and generations. "Japan will continue to provide further support for Vietnam's industrialization strategy in the coming period," the Ambassador stated, expressing his hope that "within the framework of the strategic partnership, Vietnam and Japan need to build a mutually beneficial relationship through long-term cooperation aimed at the prosperity of both countries."

Mr. Tanizaki Yasuaki also affirmed that Japan values its cooperative relationship with Asia. Japanese investment in Asia has contributed to human resource training, cultural enrichment, and promoting mutual understanding in the region. In the future, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan, and Japan and Asia, will become even closer. Along with Asia's economic growth, issues such as environmental pollution, widening economic disparities between urban and rural areas, and increasing energy consumption are problems that require Japan, Vietnam, and other Asian countries to work together to overcome.
