Achievements of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 70 years of tradition - 20 years of construction and development: Training quality assessment

Quality assurance of higher education is a new issue that has been implemented in Vietnam for the past 10 years. The important task of higher education institutions is to improve the quality of education, approaching the quality standards of universities in the region and the world. Realizing the importance of ensuring the quality of education in schools, since 2006, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has decided to establish the Training Quality Assurance Center (Decision No. 1784/QD-XHNV-TC). The Training Quality Assurance Center has the function and task of advising and assisting the Board of Directors in the management, assessment, inspection and assurance of training quality throughout the University.

Over the years, the center has performed well the tasks assigned by the University. From 2006 to 2012, the Center was the focal point for organizing educational quality assessment according to the set of standards for assessing the quality of member schools and affiliated faculties of Hanoi National University (2006); The University has also been assessed by the Ministry of Education and Training according to the Ministry's standards and is one of the first twenty schools in Vietnam to be assessed and achieve good results. In particular, in 2012, the University was assessed in the second cycle according to the standards of Hanoi National University with 60/61 criteria meeting the standards. In 2015, the Center is organizing educational quality assessment at the University level according to the set of standards for assessing educational quality of the Ministry of Education and Training. Currently, the University has been granted a Certificate of National Quality Standards by Hanoi National University and the Ministry of Education and Training.

In order to improve the quality of training and teaching, the university's undergraduate training programs have been accredited by Hanoi National University such as Linguistics, History, Tourism, International Studies, Archives and Administration and Office, Oriental Studies. To approach the regional quality standards, the university's undergraduate training program in Linguistics has participated in self-assessment and external assessment according to the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Standards and achieved 4.57/7. In 2015, the second training program continued to be assessed according to regional standards (AUN), which is the undergraduate training program in Oriental Studies. At the request of the Ministry of Education and Training, the university's high-quality undergraduate training programs are implementing self-assessment and external assessment, including the majors of Literature, Philosophy and Management Science. To achieve such evaluation results, the Training Quality Assurance Center has done a good job of advising and consulting the Faculties to write self-assessment reports and carry out external evaluation well. During the period 2015-2020, the Center has developed a plan to evaluate all university training programs according to the standards of the National University and the Ministry of Education and Training.

Attention to international rankings is necessary to determine the position of the field of social sciences and humanities as well as the position of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities compared to other universities in the world and Asia. Every year, the Center for Training Quality Assurance invites foreign scholars and employers to participate in the evaluation according to the QS rankings and the field of Social Sciences and Humanities always holds the leading position in Vietnam and in the top 100 universities in Asia.

Since 2008, the Training Quality Assurance Center has coordinated with units in the school to conduct activities to collect and survey opinions of relevant parties including students, alumni, employers, lecturers on the effectiveness of training, training programs and activities to support learners. The Center also pays special attention to collecting feedback from students on the quality of subjects in order to improve the teaching and learning quality of lecturers and students. From the 2007-2008 school year to the present, the survey has been conducted for all subjects and the scale of the survey has been increasingly expanded: In the 2007-2008 school year, 4,077 students were surveyed; in the 2008-2009 school year, 6,130 students were surveyed; in the 2009-2010 school year, 18,508 students were surveyed; 2010-2011 school year surveyed 16,244 students, 2011-2012 school year surveyed 23,226 students.

In order to have a basis for developing and implementing quality policies, in 2014, the Training Quality Assurance Center built a database on quality assurance conditions of all undergraduate and postgraduate training programs in the entire University.

Ensuring training quality is the top concern of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, because of its importance to the future development of the school. The important task for the Center for Training Quality Assurance is to improve the training quality in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to reach regional and world standards. To carry out the above task, training quality assurance needs to be developed in accordance with the orientation of the University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and in line with the general development trend in the region and the world. Learning from experiences from domestic and international universities is essential in the process of building and developing the quality assurance work of the University.
