Achievements of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 70 years of tradition - 20 years of construction and development: Scientific research work

Inheriting and promoting the strengths in scientific research, especially basic research, over the past 20 years, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has become a leading scientific research center in the country and has a regional and international reputation in the field of social sciences and humanities. The scientific development process of the University over the past 20 years can be viewed and evaluated through 3 basic stages:

- Period 1995 - 2000: With the goal of perfecting the organizational structure, innovating and developing the training and scientific research structure of the School, the School's scientific research focused on 3 basic goals:

+ Research to serve the completion of the school's management methods. Through the system of basic-level topics, the Board of Directors and departments/offices quickly determine the direction and management mechanism of basic areas such as training, research, international cooperation, etc. in the direction of an advanced university.

+ Research on developing the training structure: The school attracts and focuses resources to implement new, interdisciplinary research directions. Research results have been quickly transferred into new training programs. Thanks to that, the school has become a pioneer in opening new training majors in Vietnam such as Oriental Studies, Journalism, Tourism Studies, International Studies, Political Science, etc. and quickly developed the school into a multidisciplinary, multi-field training center.

+ Basic research and theoretical and practical summary research: To develop new training majors in a stable and quality manner, the School attracts resources to focus on basic research to create sets of tool books, textbooks, and monographs for training. In addition, the School's staff actively participates in theoretical and practical summary research programs, creating scientific arguments for building Vietnam's development policies and models. Some studies have promptly responded to urgent practical requirements such as the topicResearch on Vietnam's political system, Research on establishing historical and cultural evidence and legal basis for Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos; Research and compile the History of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, etc.

- Period 2001 - 2010: Based on the initial results of the period 1995 - 2000, the School has builtScientific research orientation of the School for 10 years (2001 - 2010).It can be said,OrientationThis creates a fundamental direction for the School's scientific research field with two parallel directions:Basic and applied researchon the basis of promoting international cooperation to gradually develop Vietnamese social sciences and humanities to integrate with the region and the world.

With the orientation of basic research, the staff of the School has strongly participated in the basic research topic system at Hanoi National University and especially 02 independent topics at the State level (History of VietnamandResearch on conservation and exploitation of Hue's Han-Nom heritageThe results of these basic studies form a set of important documents, materials, and tools for the construction and development of the School's training programs.

With the orientation of summarizing theoretical and practical research, the School strengthens scientific and technological information work, establishes regular relationships with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the office of key scientific programs at the State level, develops policies to support scientists and research groups in developing explanations for large, interdisciplinary topics. Therefore, at the end of the period 2001 - 2010, the School successfully bid for 9 State-level topics.

The period 2001 - 2010 was also the period when the University directed the organization of scientific conferences, especially international scientific conferences, to create opportunities for scientists to publish and exchange research results with international scientists to develop Vietnamese social sciences and humanities in general and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular to gradually integrate into the region and the world.

The direction and method of scientific research activities of the School during this period have achieved important results: 8 outstanding scientific awards at the Hanoi National University level, 4 State-level Science and Technology awards, 2 Ho Chi Minh Awards for Science and Technology. The spirit and atmosphere of scientific research of the teaching staff have created a good environment to promote scientific research of students. As a result, 11 scientific works of students won the National University-level student scientific research award, 25 works of students won the Young Scientific Talent Award of the Ministry of Education and Training. The School was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Minister of Education and Training for 10 years of outstanding achievements in the student scientific research movement.

- Period 2011 to present:

Based on the summary of the scientific research orientation for the 10 years 2001 - 2010, the School has built a 10-year scientific research orientation for the period 2011 - 2020. In addition to maintaining the development of basic research and theoretical and practical summary research as two affirmed strengths, the scientific research orientation for the period 2011 - 2010 adds the task of interdisciplinary research (seas and islands, climate change, agricultural - rural - farmer issues), regional development research and especially promoting the construction and development of the School in the direction of a research university. To implement this orientation, the School has builtThe University's science and technology development strategy until 2020; Program for developing high-quality scientific products to meet the country's socio-economic development requirements; policy to encourage international publication, etc.

The highlight of scientific research activities during this period is that the School has actively participated in key State scientific programs. The number of State-level topics in 2011-2015 is 17 topics, not including 8 topics in the project to compile a set ofHistory of Vietnam, 01 topic aboutGovernment historyand 02 topicsNorthwest Science and Technology Programis finalizing the presentation and signing the research contract in 2015.

Promoting the strength of basic research, the Board of Directors focuses on directing resources to propose and implement topics under the Nafosted Fund. Specifically, in the period of 2011 - 2015, the School chaired and organized the implementation of 22 topics under this Fund.

The school also focuses on research to serve local development. Currently, the school has cooperated with localities, especially Hanoi and Ha Nam, to preside over and organize the implementation of 5 provincial-level projects.

Thus, along with the topics at the National University of Hanoi level, the system of State-level topics, topics under the Nafosted Fund and local topics are the basis for creating many scientific publications in journals and/or in domestic and international scientific conferences, enhancing the scientific reputation of the University.
