More opportunities for exchange and learning about China for USSH students.

On April 12th, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the university - had his first meeting with representatives from the Centre for Chinese Language Teaching Research - Ministry of Education Singapore (SCCL Singapore).

Representing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the university, representatives from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and representatives from various functional departments of the university.
Representing the Centre for Chinese Language Teaching Research - Ministry of Education Singapore (SCCL Singapore) were Dr. Foo Suan Fong - Executive Director, and a delegation.
In his opening remarks, Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong welcomed the first visit of the delegation from the SCCL center to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The Vice Rector shared his aspirations for cooperation and development between the university and the center. He emphasized that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has a long tradition in language research, with Chinese always being one of the languages ​​the university focuses on and promotes research in. Every year, even during the Covid-19 pandemic, the university receives between 400 and 800 international students. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is currently designing and finalizing a summer course for international students to experience Vietnamese culture, learn Vietnamese, and visit famous Vietnamese landmarks. Given the university's global cooperation and integration trend, Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong hopes to cooperate and create opportunities for students interested in learning and exchanging Chinese in Singapore in the near future.

Dr. Foo Suan Fong shared: The Centre for Chinese Language Teaching and Research - Ministry of Education of Singapore was established with the main goal of teaching Chinese as a second language in a bilingual environment. SCCL not only trains Chinese for practical use but also serves as a specialized institute for research on Chinese culture. In the future, the Centre will aim to expand into Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam - a multi-ethnic environment similar to Singapore. Dr. Foo Suan Fong hopes that in the future, the Centre will welcome students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to study and visit Singapore, as well as welcome faculty members from the university for exchange and collaboration.

Following the meeting with SCCL, Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, Head of the Chinese Studies Department at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, also highlighted the similarities between the Faculty of Oriental Studies and SCCL, and the outstanding activities of Oriental Studies students.
The Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and HumanitiesThe program offers five majors: Chinese Studies, Korean Studies, Japanese Studies, Indian Studies, and Southeast Asian Studies. The Chinese Studies program not only trains bachelor's degree holders in Chinese language and Chinese studies but also supports doctoral programs in the field. Each year, students in this program have the opportunity to participate in field trips and short courses at universities in China. Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa believes that, based on these commonalities, the collaboration will be the starting point for many opportunities for exchange and work between students and faculty of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and CSSL.
