Meeting and working with Professor Briesen of the University of Giessen (Federal Republic of Germany)

Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh warmly welcomed Professor Detlef Briesen as a representative of the University of Giessen, Germany. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Giessen have had many effective collaborations over the past 10 years. These collaborations include faculty and student exchanges, joint research projects, and especially the organization of international conferences. In November 2013, the two universities jointly organized the conference "Population, Health and Medicine in Developing Countries: The Case of Vietnam from the 18th Century to the Present." The conference was highly regarded both domestically and internationally and generated significant attention.

Based on the achievements of the aforementioned collaborations, Professor Detlef Briesen proposed new collaborations in the future in the fields of teaching, research, and conference organization. It is expected that Professor Briesen will continue working at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and teaching students in the Political Science, History, Archival Studies departments, etc. In addition, he will also be a visiting lecturer for faculty members at the University.

Regarding cooperation in organizing seminars, both sides agreed to co-organize a seminar on the topic "International Experiences on the Rule of Law: Lessons for Vietnam" (tentative) in September 2014 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to share experiences on the rule of law between Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, both sides will also organize a seminar on the topic "War, Health and Environment" in Vinh in early 2015. These plans promise to bring many benefits to students and lecturers of both universities, as well as promote cooperative relations.

At the end of the meeting, representatives from both sides agreed to have more specific discussions in order to soon develop and implement the proposed cooperation plans.

It is known that in July 2012, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, visited Giessen University and agreed on the main cooperation objectives between the two sides.
