Meeting and working with Tsinghua University (China)

On September 6, 2016, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received and held a working meeting with a delegation from Tsinghua University (China) led by Professor Yan Xue Tong (Director of the Institute of International Relations). Representatives from the Cooperation and Development Office also participated in the meeting.

Meeting and working with Tsinghua University (China)

Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) stated that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a leading university in training and research in the social sciences and humanities. The university currently has 16 faculties, 12 centers and research institutes, as well as over 10,000 students and trainees at various levels and training programs. In 1995, the University established the Department of Chinese Studies under the Faculty of Oriental Studies and has been providing training from bachelor's to doctoral levels in Chinese Studies. Many Chinese students have studied subjects such as International Studies, Vietnamese Studies, and Vietnamese language at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the framework of 1+3 and 2+2 training programs. The University hopes to further expand its cooperative relationships with Chinese universities and research institutes.

In response, Professor Yan Xue Tong thanked the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for its warm welcome and proposed several collaborative activities between Tsinghua University and the University, such as organizing international conferences, student and faculty exchanges, and implementing 2+2 and 1+3 training programs.

Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh agreed with Professor Diem Hoc Thong's proposals. In response, the President expressed his wish for Tsinghua University to send students, trainees, and faculty members to the University for visits, research, and internships. Furthermore, the President suggested that the Institute submit articles and contributions to the University's Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities. The President also hoped that the Institute would send staff and faculty to attend upcoming conferences and seminars organized by the University, such as the 5th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies in December.

Tsinghua University is China's leading comprehensive university, located in the northwest of Beijing. It comprises 47 institutes and research centers, and 29 research centers, including 5 centers that meet national standards. Originally named "Tsinghua School," it was founded in 1911 and renamed "Tsinghua Private University" in 1928. To date, it has developed into a world-class university with strong academic programs in engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, and arts. The university boasts 30,000 computers, and its library, covering 39,000 square meters, houses 4,100,000 books and provides internet access for both domestic and international readers.
