Receive and work with Naresuan University (Thailand)

On August 29, 2016, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received and worked with a delegation from Naresuan University (Thailand) led by Associate Professor Dr. Patcharin Sirasoonthorn (Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences). Also attending the meeting were representatives from the Faculty of Sociology, Faculty of Political Science, Faculty of Anthropology, Training Department, Science Management Department and Cooperation and Development Department.

At the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) briefly introduced the history of development, training scale and international relations of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The University is a prestigious institution in training and research in Social Sciences and Humanities. The Asian Studies Department of the University has trained many students with in-depth knowledge of Thailand and good Thai language skills. Every year, the University sends students and lecturers to exchange study and research at leading universities in Thailand. The University currently has official cooperative relations with more than 20 universities in Thailand such as Chukalongkon, Mahidol, Thamasat, Chiang Mai, Bangsomdejchaopraya Rajabhat, Ubon Rajathanee. The University is currently aiming to become a research university, so strengthening cooperation with foreign partners is very important.

In response, Associate Professor, Dr. Patcharin Sirasoonthorn thanked the warm welcome of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and proposed a number of cooperative activities between Naresun University and the University, such as organizing international conferences, exchanging students and lecturers, and implementing joint training programs. Some of the main proposed fields are sociology, political science, anthropology, tourism studies, international relations, public administration, etc.

Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh agreed with the proposals of Associate Professor Dr. Patcharin Sirasoonthorn. The President also hoped that Naresuan University would send students, trainees, and lecturers to the University for visits, research, and internships. In addition, the President suggested that Naresuan University send articles and contribute ideas to the University's Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities and send staff and lecturers to attend upcoming seminars and conferences organized by the University such as the International Conference on the ASEAN Community in September, the International Conference on the East Sea in November, and the 5th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies in December. These are very practical activities to strengthen the cooperative relationship and understanding between the two universities in particular and between Vietnam and Thailand in general.

At the meeting, the two sides also agreed to expand the signed cooperation document in the 2008-2009 school year.

Naresuan University is a state-funded university in Phitsanulok Province, northern Thailand. Naresuan University was established as a separate university on July 29, 1990, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the beginning of the reign of the Phitsanulok-born King Naresuan the Great. Naresuan University is a comprehensive university offering over 58 undergraduate and 55 graduate programs in various fields such as Agricultural Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, and Social Sciences. It currently has about 25,000 students. Every year, 15 Naresuan University students come to study Vietnamese language and culture at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
