As part of their three-week Vietnamese language internship in Vietnam, a group of students from the Vietnamese Language Department of Osaka University (Japan) held an exchange program with students from the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities), on behalf of the university leadership, welcomed the Japanese students who are passionate about the Vietnamese language. The Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture at the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a partner unit of the Vietnamese Language Department at Osaka University, directly teaching and organizing the exchange program.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan welcomed the delegation of Osaka University students for their short-term internship at the University. Associate Professor Hoang Anh Thi (Deputy Director of the Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tho (teacher at Osaka University) attended the exchange, providing direct instruction and guidance to the students on various situations. From forms of address and greetings, to the use of vocabulary and sentence structure in conversation, to explanations of Vietnamese food, customs, and culture, everything was discussed openly and intimately between the lecturers and students of both countries. The exchange truly became a lively and engaging learning session about the Vietnamese language and culture for the Japanese students. At the same time, the students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, especially those from the Linguistics Department, also had the opportunity to practice teaching Vietnamese to foreigners. This is the third year that Osaka University and the Center have organized a Vietnamese language internship program for students in Vietnam. Each year, Osaka University arranges for first-year students – after only four months of studying Vietnamese in Japan – to participate in a short-term course in Vietnam, giving them the opportunity to learn and be encouraged to pursue their studies and research early on.

Associate Professor Hoang Anh Thi stated:"After the short-term course, students' enthusiasm for learning Vietnamese improved significantly. During the 3-week internship, students learned Vietnamese in a native-speaking environment, directly taught by the Center, with a particular focus on Vietnamese communication skills and acquiring knowledge about Vietnamese culture. In addition, there were many outdoor practical sessions and sightseeing trips to famous landmarks. In their third year, students could choose to return to Vietnam to continue learning the language and complete their thesis, receiving guidance from native teachers. Osaka University is one of many institutions with a long-standing and effective collaborative relationship with the Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Osaka.
