Letter from VNU President Nguyen Kim Son to Professors, teachers, staff, civil servants and students on the occasion of the new school year

Looking back on the past year, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, VNU has achieved proud achievements and developed in all aspects: VNU continues to complete the planning and development of training majors/specializations for the period 2014-2020 in the direction of a research university and meeting the needs of the labor market; focusing on implementing quality stratification of training programs according to ranking and quality assessment standards. At the same time, VNU continues to pioneer in innovation of higher education through innovation in admissions based on capacity assessment methods and improving training quality. In addition, VNU continues to promote its strengths in basic scientific research, while focusing on research serving the application and development of science and technology towards output products, linked to practice, linking science and technology development with improving training quality. VNU has always affirmed its position in leading the country's higher education institutions in scientific articles published in prestigious international journals. In particular, the State-level Key Science and Technology Program for Sustainable Development of the Northwest region has achieved many important results, which can be transferred to localities in many different forms. With continuous efforts, VNU's ranking position has improved significantly. This year, VNU has risen to 139th in the top 150 universities in Asia and continues to be No. 1 in Vietnam in the QS rankings. Along with that, VNU's excellent student delegations have always won high prizes in international Olympic competitions. All of the above efforts of VNU have demonstrated a strong commitment to society in the process of improving quality and enhancing prestige at home and abroad. VNU will always be one of the mainstays for Vietnamese intelligence; is a reliable address providing high-quality human resources to meet the development requirements of the country; creating added values ​​and unique products; making important contributions to the prosperity of Vietnam as well as the region and the world. In the new school year 2016 - 2017, VNU continues to effectively implement the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress, the Resolution of the 5th National Party Congress of VNU. VNU identifies the key task as improving the quality and efficiency of all activities, especially in training and scientific research; continuing to promote the achievements of university admission innovation, expanding support for other universities in need of using the results; innovating the training process, especially doctoral training, in the spirit of linking training with scientific research, minimizing administrative procedures; Comprehensively innovate student affairs, strongly shift from management to service, comprehensively support learners... I believe that, with the slogan of action: Reaching the peak based on knowledge, we will be united, unanimous, proactively overcome challenges, perform well the tasks of the year by promoting community culture, deep sense of responsibility to VNU and society, create a combined strength, promote all resources, proactively rise to international level, carry out the glorious mission.

On the occasion of the new school year, on behalf of the leaders of VNU, I would like to express my deep gratitude and best wishes to generations of teachers who have always made tireless efforts for the career of educating people of VNU. I wish all VNU students and pupils to enter the new school year with many new successes and victories.
