Professor, Doctor, People's Teacher Phan Huu Dat (1928-2019)

A member of the Communist Party of Vietnam, born on June 1, 1928 (Year of the Earth Dragon). Place of origin: Thanh Luong Village, Huong Xuan Commune, Huong Tra District, Thua Thien Hue Province. Current residence: 41A, Group 26, Lam Du Street, Bo De Ward, Long Bien District, Hanoi.

Former Head of the History Department (1970-1975), Head of the Saigon University Institute, Head of the Saigon Faculty of Letters, Rector of the Saigon Faculty of Letters (1975-1977); Head of the Ethnology Department (1986-1988), Vice Rector (1977-1981), Acting Rector (1981-1985) and Rector of Hanoi University (1985-1988), Member of the National Council for the Compilation of the Vietnamese Encyclopedia, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Head of the Ethnology section of the Vietnamese Encyclopedia from 1994 until retirement.

Former Honorary Professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University (Soviet Union), University of Paris VII (Republic of France), Former President of the Vietnam Association of Ethnology (1998-2003), Former President of the Association of Retired Faculty of Hanoi National University, first term.

The medals include the Second Class (1957) and Third Class (1964) Resistance Medal against the French, the Second Class Anti-American Resistance Medal for National Salvation (1985), the Third Class Labor Medal (1985), the First Class Labor Medal (1998), the 70th Anniversary Party Membership Badge, the State Award for Science and Technology (2005), and many other medals and commemorative awards.

After a period of illness, despite the dedicated care and treatment from the team of doctors and family, due to his advanced age and serious illness, he passed away at 2:52 AM on April 18, 2019 (corresponding to March 14, Year of the Pig), at the age of 92.

The memorial service will be held from 7:15 AM to 8:30 AM on April 21, 2019 (corresponding to the 17th day of the 3rd lunar month of the Year of the Pig) at the National Funeral Home, 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi.

The memorial service and funeral procession will take place at 8:30 AM on April 21, 2019.

The cremation ceremony was held at 1:00 PM on the same day at Van Dien Cemetery, Thanh Tri, Hanoi.

The Funeral Organizing Committee and the family respectfully announce this.

Note:The school provided transportation for staff to pay their respects; the vehicle departed from the school at 6:30 AM on April 21, 2019.
