Receiving a delegation from the International Cultural Center, Chiao-Tung University (Taiwan, China)

On April 16, 2019, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and representatives of the Faculty of Anthropology, Faculty of Sociology, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Office of Scientific Research Management, Office of Cooperation and Development received and worked with the delegation of the International Cultural Center, Chiao-Tung University (Taiwan, China) led by Prof. Joyce Chi-Hui Liu (Director).

At the meeting, Prof. Joyce Chi-Hui Liu introduced the International Cultural Center (ICCS). Established in 2012, ICCS is an inter-university research center within the Taiwan University System, including National Chiao-Tung University, National Tsing Hua University, National Central University, and National Yang Ming University. ICCS brings together scholars in social sciences and humanities from four universities, builds an International Master's Program in Pan-Asian Cultural Studies, promotes interdisciplinary, transnational, and inter-university research projects, and creates an international educational environment. Currently, ICCS is implementing a key project called "Conflict, Justice, and Decolonization: Critical Studies in Pan-Asian Societies", bringing together 31 scholars from many scientific disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, political philosophy, gender studies, and discourse analysis.

In addition, the Research Institute for Social and Cultural Studies (SRCS) of Chiao Tung University is also implementing the project “Migrant Workers’ Rights, Legal Consultation and Trans-local Connections”. Based on the similarities with the disciplines of the USSH, Prof. Joyce Chi-Hui Liu expressed the hope that scholars from the University can participate in these projects.

On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the cooperation idea from the International Cultural Center as well as the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies. With a team of interdisciplinary scientists and researchers, the University is capable of participating in the above research projects. This also contributes to promoting international publishing, which is part of the University's general internationalization strategy. In the immediate future, representatives of relevant units of the University will discuss with the other side to develop specific cooperation plans.

Founded in 1896, National Chiao Tung University is located in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. According to the QS World University Rankings 2016/17, National Chiao Tung University is ranked 174th in the world and 31st in Asia. The university has over 10,000 students and 9 colleges: Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Science, Bioscience & Technology, Photonics, Management, Human & Social Sciences, Hakka Culture Research Institute.
