Receiving a delegation from the German Development and Cooperation Organization (GIZ)

On April 11, 2019, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and representatives of the Faculty of Sociology and the Department of Cooperation and Development received and worked with a delegation from the German Development and Cooperation Organization (GIZ) led by Mr. Christopher Mallman (Chief Advisor of the Social Targets Project in Sustainable Green Growth).

At the meeting, GIZ representatives introduced the Social Target Project in Sustainable Green Growth. The project has been implemented since 2016 with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, with the goal of strengthening the integration of social factors into the process of formulating policies and strategies for green growth. The project organizes technical assistance activities, transfers knowledge, draws on experience in assessing the impact of social policies, and helps improve the capacity of officials, civil servants and public employees of the Government of Vietnam.

For higher education institutions such as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Project expressed its desire to support the capacity of lecturers and students of the University in the field of social impact assessment. Thereby, adding this field to the training program of related units such as the Department of Social Work and the Faculty of Sociology. In the immediate future, the Project proposed to organize workshops and training courses to introduce and supplement social impact assessment skills for staff and lecturers of the University.

On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated GIZ's goodwill towards the University through the idea of ​​developing the Project. The Rector also agreed that universities have the role and ability to contribute to the development of social policies at the state level. In the coming time, the University's Faculty of Sociology will discuss in detail with GIZ representatives on specific cooperation plans. The two sides can also sign an official memorandum of understanding as a basis for cooperation.

Established in 2011, the German Development and Cooperation Agency is under the authority of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ). This is an organization with extensive experience in developing and conducting many social and poverty impact assessments in many countries around the world, and has a tradition of cooperation in Vietnam in the fields of social security and green growth.
