On December 14, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with Gakushuin University (Japan) and Myongji University (Korea) organized an international scientific conference with the theme "Organizing and promoting the value of people's archives".Attending the workshop were Director of the Central Party Office Archives Department Nguyen Van Lanh, Associate Professor Dr. Duong Van Kham - Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Records and Archives, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector of the University, international and Vietnamese scientists, universities, archives research institutes, lecturers, students, trainees, and postgraduates of the Department of Archival Studies and Office Administration. In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh emphasized: The international scientific workshop with the theme "Organizing and promoting the value of people's archives" is one of the practical activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of training university-level archivists in Vietnam (1967 - 2012). At the same time, this is also an important first step for the cooperation process between 3 universities and archivists in 3 countries in improving the quality of training and research.

The main content of the papers deals with issues related to people's archives and the archival situation of individuals, families, clans, temples, villages and community organizations. There are papers researching people's archives from a theoretical and historical perspective: "People's archives - theoretical and practical issues and research orientations" by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tham - Vietnam Association of Records and Archives. Several papers have published the results of surveys and research on people's archives in practice in Vietnam, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, etc. Typical papers are: Private archives in the community in Japan - challenges from the past, present to the future (Assoc. Prof. Yuichi Aohi, Gakushuin University, Japan); Community archives and the trend of everyday archiving in Korea: The development of interests in archival studies and the process of creating public memory (Prof. Ikhan Kim, Myongji University, Korea); Document storage in families in Vietnam through practical surveys and issues that need to be researched (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Thi Phung - Head of the Department of Archival Studies and Office Management, USSH). Other presentations at the workshop also focused on sharing experiences and solutions for the problem of organizing and promoting the value of people's archives: Experience in collecting and building personal archives through research practice of Group LX51 (MSc. Tran Bich Hanh - Center for Heritage of Vietnamese Scientists); Private Archives in Germany – Experiences for the Organization of Archives in Vietnam (Prof. Detlef Briesen, University of Giesen, Germany)… This scientific conference aims to raise social awareness, contribute to the dissemination and effective implementation of the provisions of the Archives Law on the organization and promotion of the value of people's archives. The results of the conference will also be useful reference materials for the research and training of Archival Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
