On December 20, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized an international conference entitled "The Rule of Law: Some Theoretical and Practical Issues". Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu – Vice Rector of the University – attended and delivered the opening speech. The conference received 59 papers submitted by scientists from Vietnam and abroad. Twelve full papers were presented at the conference, receiving more than 50 comments, suggestions, and debates. After a day of active and urgent work, in the spirit of open exchange, the scientists reached consensus on many important theoretical and practical issues. The conference showed that international friends highly appreciate Vietnam's achievements in national development and are interested in following the theoretical and practical summaries of the Party over more than 25 years of reform. Theoretically, the Party has consistently and creatively applied the ideology of the rule of law to state building, drawing on the classical legacy of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, to the Vietnamese reality. Practically, new theoretical understandings of the rule of law and solutions for building it stem from the practical realities of people's lives and the practical realities of our country's reform. The Communist Party of Vietnam has gradually developed a system of fundamental viewpoints and principles on building a socialist rule of law state of the people, by the people, and for the people. The concluding report affirmed that this conference was a step forward in approaching and applying the understanding of building a rule of law state.
