Discussion Center No. 8 of the 10th National Youth Union Congress (2012-2017) was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the afternoon of December 11, 2012. The discussion topic of the Center was "Youth volunteers for community life".Discussion Center No. 8 was attended by Comrade Nguyen Vinh Hien - Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Comrade Ha Thi Dung - Deputy Head of the Department of Student Affairs, Ministry of Education and Training, Nguyen Thanh Hai - Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children; Prof. Dr. Dang Canh Khanh, former Director of the Institute for Youth Research; Comrade Vu Lam Son - Member of the Central Youth Union Standing Committee, Head of the Youth Volunteer Committee, Central Youth Union; Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan - Member of the Central Youth Union Standing Committee, Head of the Central Youth Union Rural Committee. In his welcoming speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Principal of the School - affirmed that the achievements of the School have the extremely important role of the Youth Union members of all generations. The youth of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have made great efforts to volunteer and promote their intellectual potential, practical theoretical experience, and deepen their activities to meet the socio-economic development strategies of the country, as well as the development requirements of localities. The occasion of organizing the 8th Discussion Center this time is an opportunity for the Youth Union of the University to share their experiences.

The discussion revolved around the viewpoints and solutions perceived from the vivid reality of the movement “volunteering and volunteering for community life”. The delegates pointed out the strengths and weaknesses, what has been done and what has not been done in the “Youth Volunteer” movement. On that basis, the delegates also proposed ideas, initiatives and specific solutions to develop the Youth Volunteer movement to a new level. The three main issues raised for clarification at the discussion were:
- Strongly develop volunteer activities, diversify types, expand connections and orient spontaneous volunteer models and teams.
- Volunteer activities directly contribute to sustainable development and participate in solving major national and global issues such as ensuring social security, participating in healthcare development, grassroots education, disaster prevention, environmental protection, and ensuring traffic safety.
- Build and perfect a national-level management and coordination model for volunteer activities, research volunteer social projects, and expand international cooperation on volunteer work.
After 3 hours of discussion with 92 official delegates, the discussion program “Youth Volunteers for Community Life” ended successfully. Discussion Center No. 8 is one of 10 discussion centers taking place in the second working session of the 10th National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
