On the morning of August 3rd, at the Tan Lap Commune People's Committee Hall (Moc Chau - Son La), the Student Volunteer Team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Tan Lap Commune, held a ceremony to summarize the 2010 summer volunteer activities.The event was attended by leaders of the Party Committee, People's Committee, various departments and organizations, the Secretaries of the Youth Union branches in the villages and sub-districts of Tan Lap commune, and a large number of student volunteers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. At the closing ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Duy Tu - Team Leader of the Student Volunteer Team - on behalf of the entire team, read a report summarizing the summer volunteer activities of the Student Volunteer Team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Tan Lap commune (from July 15th to August 5th) and presented a commemorative gift from the Student Volunteer Team to the representative of the Tan Lap commune leadership. The report highlighted the achievements of the Student Volunteer Team while also pointing out the difficulties and limitations encountered during their volunteer work in the locality. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Ha Ngoc Quy - Secretary of the Party Committee of Tan Lap commune - acknowledged the achievements of the Student Volunteer Team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and expressed his hope that the youth of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general, and the Student Volunteer Team in particular, will further develop their youthful energy and enthusiasm to make more contributions to their homeland and country. He hoped that the volunteer days in Tan Lap commune would become unforgettable memories in the student life of each volunteer. The Party Secretary, on behalf of the government and organizations of Tan Lap commune, also presented a commemorative gift to the Volunteer Team. A farewell cultural exchange night for the Tan Lap Commune Volunteer Team was held at the Hoa I and Hoa II village cultural houses on the evening of the same day.
Results of the summer volunteer program:
As of August 3rd, the Student Volunteer Team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Tan Lap commune (Moc Chau - Son La) has disseminated information and distributed materials to 9 villages/sub-districts: Phieng Canh, Sub-district 32, Na Tan, Nam Tom, Co Phay, Na Phay, Nong Coc, Ban Na, and Nam Khao. - Regarding labor: The team has cleaned the environment in 10 villages, health stations, and schools, including thousands of meters of canals, village roads, and alleys; leveled a 500m long dirt road in Na Phay village; dug 200m of water pipes at Tan Lap commune primary school; and participated in helping villagers harvest tea, collect corn, and build houses. - Cultural, artistic, and sports exchange activities: The team coordinated with the commune's Youth Union and grassroots branches to organize 7 cultural and football exchange events in the villages/sub-districts of Hoa I, Hoa II, Phieng Canh, Na Tan, Sub-district 32, Phieng Canh, and Na Phay. - Teaching activities: The team organized 15 review sessions and summer activities in Hoa I and Hoa II villages, attracting 100 students from grades 1 to 5; coordinated with the primary school to organize summer activities for students in the mornings, and donated 40 gifts and books to children with good academic achievements. - Activities of gratitude and assistance to families in difficult circumstances: The team organized labor assistance for 12 families receiving preferential treatment, visited and presented gifts to 70 families receiving preferential treatment on the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27th), and donated 8 boxes of clothes to students in disadvantaged villages of the commune. - Youth projects and training of grassroots Youth Union officials: The student volunteer team coordinated with the school's Youth Union to donate a computer and a bookshelf with a total of 600 books including propaganda books, history and culture books, comic books, and children's books to the Tan Lap Commune Youth Union; organized a training session for the secretaries of the Youth Union branches in the villages and sub-districts of Tan Lap commune.
