Last school year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities achieved many achievements in various fields of activity. In the field of training, the University completed the conversion of 23 undergraduate training programs and 54 postgraduate training programs according to output standards; built dual degree training programs, bringing the total number of training programs to 154 programs; implemented support for basic science majors; and had many innovations in teaching and learning. The University was granted a certificate of training quality meeting national standards with 98% of the criteria meeting the standards. Scientific research work had many outstanding results when the University successfully participated in bidding for 12 State-level scientific research topics; organized more than 30 seminars, including 14 international seminars. The University's policy advisory council proposed important recommendations to Party and State agencies related to the East Sea and Oc Eo culture research program. In the field of international relations, the School continues to sign cooperation agreements with many major universities in the world, bringing the total number of international partners to 190.
At the Conference, the working direction for the 2013-2014 school year of the University was determined as: “Continue to develop the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the direction of a research university; promote administrative reform; Well perform the pioneering and pivotal role in the university education system; Well implement cooperation with domestic and foreign partners, enhance knowledge transfer and contribute to the development of the community; Continue to develop financial resources, improve the material and spiritual life of cadres and civil servants”.
Associate Professor, Dr. Phung Xuan Nha also affirmed the policy of VNU is "Towards the grassroots units, the new regulations of VNU will have a high spirit of decentralization.”. Therefore, units need to be more proactive, clear and determined in carrying out assigned tasks. The achievements of the grassroots units will create the value and brand of VNU.
Regarding the implementation of the new school year's tasks, the Director reminded the School of some specific points: in the development planning of the industry and majors, it is necessary to select potential industries for key investment, avoiding spreading; it is necessary to continue to consider scientific research as a key task, strongly participate and take a key position in the Northwest Research Program and other key interdisciplinary research programs of VNU and the State, especially focusing on "hot" topics of society and the country and must promote the practical application and widespread influence of these research results on society.
Regarding staff building, the Director suggested that the School should have a project to build, train and develop staff, especially young staff, and have effective policies to attract qualified staff to work. In the coming school year, the School also needs to be drastic in innovating university governance, considering administrative reform as a breakthrough solution.
At the Conference, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities awarded individuals and groups with achievements in the 2012-2013 school year; elected the People's Inspectorate and launched the emulation movement for the new school year 2013-2014 with the theme: "Innovation - Pioneer - Quality - Discipline".
