On July 22, 2013, the Standing Committee of the Science and Training Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a meeting to review and approve scientific research projects for 2014. Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector, Chairman of the Council) chaired the meeting.
After discussion, the Standing Committee of the Council for Science and Technology Development reached several conclusions regarding the important tasks in the School's scientific activities in 2014:
In addition to its regular duties, the University focuses on major tasks aimed at implementing the roadmap to build the University of Social Sciences and Humanities into a research university; building strong research groups to propose and implement major scientific programs, especially the Program for Research on Positioning and Developing Vietnamese Social Sciences and Humanities, projects under the State-level key scientific program, independent State-level projects, projects under the Protocol, projects under NAFOSTED, projects of localities, especially Hanoi city, and Group A and B projects at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The university will focus on strengthening the activities of the Policy Advisory Council, promptly organizing research and providing advice to Party and State leaders on major strategic issues in the country's cultural, scientific, and educational development policies.
Focus on organizing 5 to 6 major scientific seminars, strengthening the integration of research with training, and organizing scientific conferences for young staff and postgraduate students. The system of basic-level research projects will prioritize young staff members who are currently working on their theses and dissertations.
The Standing Committee of the Council for Science and Technology also issued specific conclusions regarding the implementation of scientific conferences and basic-level research projects in 2014. Accordingly, the University directly supervised the organization of six major conferences/forums on: Vietnam-France relations after the Dien Bien Phu event; Vietnamese migrant literature from 1975 to the present; assessing the current state of human resources in the social sciences and humanities of Vietnam; collaborating with the Vietnam Film Institute and several regional universities to organize the conference "Contemporary Asian Cinema from the Perspective of Authorial Theory"; collaborating with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City to organize a conference on the East Sea; and organizing the Forum of Rectors of universities in the Red River Basin on the topic of responding to climate change and water resources.
The Standing Committee of the Science and Technology Council also approved 25 basic-level research projects proposed by individuals and units.
