On the morning of July 11, 2013, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to receive the handover of the in-depth investment project to build a Center for Journalism and Communication Training from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and a signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Journalists Association.
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Ha Minh Hue – Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim – Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hai – Head of the Project Management and Development Board.
The project to invest in the construction of a Center for Journalism and Media Training and Experimentation was implemented over three years (2010-2012) at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, focusing on the following areas: investment in equipment for training, scientific research, and journalism and media services; construction, repair, and renovation of facilities; and advanced training for staff. The project aimed to strengthen the connection between training and practice, between scientific research and application, and to initially develop a model of a high-tech center and service complex within the university.
The project has equipped the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with a comprehensive and modern infrastructure worth nearly 30 billion VND for journalism training, including a studio, editing rooms, sound recording rooms, online news rooms, print and photojournalism rooms, etc., meeting standards equivalent to many current media organizations. Using the project's modern equipment, over the past two years, students in the Journalism and Communication major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have completed internships and produced nearly 50 high-quality radio and television programs, broadcast on various mass media outlets.
Evaluating the effectiveness of the Project, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim – Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – stated that the Project has created opportunities for the Faculty of Journalism and Communication and the Center for Journalism and Communication Professional Training to enhance their capacity to professionally train journalistic skills right within the University. With these equipment, staff, trainees, students, and partners will be able to collaborate in building models of radio and television channels, and miniature newspapers within the University, while also producing and supplying media products to press agencies.
Also at the ceremony, in the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Xuan Nha (Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and representatives of relevant units, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim and Mr. Ha Minh Hue - Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association signed the official cooperation agreement between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Vietnam Journalists Association.
In the coming period, the two institutions will cooperate in training, academic exchange, and professional journalistic practice through mutual support in teaching, research, and the development of collaborative professional programs. The signing of this cooperation agreement between a leading journalism training institution in the country and a large political, social, and professional organization representing 20,000 journalists – currently working in nearly 800 media outlets nationwide – is expected to bring about positive changes in journalism training and the practical professional activities of journalists in the future.
Mr. Ha Minh Hue and Associate Professor Dr. Phung Xuan Nha presented the Center and the Faculty of Broadcasting and Communication with a copy of the first issue of Thanh Nien newspaper.
At the project handover and cooperation signing ceremony, Associate Professor Phung Xuan Nha suggested that the Faculty of Journalism and Communication and the Center for Journalism and Communication Professional Training should proactively and actively utilize the invested facilities to improve the quality of journalism training, especially the professional practice capacity of students. In the future, with the advantages already present, the Center should also coordinate with other units to promote communication activities for Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
