Journey of love to the highlands of Phong Hai, Lao CaiFrom July 17 to 20, 2025, the Youth Union - Association of the Faculty of Linguistics, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi organized the volunteer campaign "Green Summer 2025: Green Suong Bien" at Ban Cam Primary School, Phong Hai Commune, Lao Cai Province.
The trip lasted 4 days and 3 nights - although short in time, it was full of memorable moments, when each step of the volunteers left its mark on the misty highlands, carrying with it enthusiasm, sharing and belief in kindness.
Within the framework of the volunteer campaign, students of the Faculty of Linguistics directly implemented four youth projects at Ban Cam Primary School, Phong Hai Commune, Lao Cai Province. Each project not only has material significance, but also clearly demonstrates a sense of responsibility and a desire to share with the disadvantaged highland community.
The project “Shading for children” was carried out by erecting a roof in the school yard, aiming to create a safer learning and living space for students in harsh hot conditions. This is one of the top priority items, contributing to improving the local school environment.

Next is the project “Going to school with you”, in which the corridors and school gates are completely repainted with bright, familiar colors. Each brushstroke is meticulously done by students of the Faculty of Linguistics, as a way to convey their feelings with the hope that the students will feel the care and encouragement from their older brothers and sisters from Hanoi.

Inside the classroom, the project “
Love Points”has completely transformed the learning space. The old walls were cleaned and painted, bringing liveliness and warmth to the classrooms. Each coat of paint is not only a physical renovation, but also the result of the perseverance, thoroughness and sense of responsibility of the students of the Faculty of Linguistics towards the learning environment of the children here.

The project “Propaganda for environmental protection” was implemented through an extracurricular activity for all students of the school. With close and practical content, the communication session helped students initially form awareness about protecting the living environment – a topic that is still unfamiliar but extremely necessary in highland areas like Phong Hai.

Sow love, reap smilesThroughout the journey, the students of the Faculty of Linguistics always received enthusiastic support from teachers at the school and valuable companionship from the villagers and local leaders. Despite the lack of conditions, the friendliness, hospitality and kindness of the people here left the deepest and most sincere impressions on the hearts of the volunteer group members.

In particular, it was the students who left indelible impressions on the students. From the initial shy glances, they gradually opened their hearts and became attached to their “older brothers and sisters from the capital”. Some chatted excitedly, some gave the students tiny wild fruits as precious gifts, and some gently nestled in the arms of their older friends as if they had found a long-standing familiarity.

All those little things – smiles, handshakes, loving glances – made each activity more meaningful than ever.
The trip ended with a warm farewell party, where small gifts were given to the students as a message of love. Although the journey has ended, the memories, emotions and attachments will remain in each person who has set foot on that misty land.

Green Suong Bien is not just a campaign. It is a place where the youth of the Faculty of Linguistics can try their best, live fully with their ideals and aspirations to contribute. It is a place where each volunteer’s heart learns to sympathize, share, and appreciate every little thing around them.
