Linguistics students and their journey in the "Green Summer 2025: Green Border Mist" program.
A journey to bring love to the highlands of Phong Hai, Lao Cai.
From July 17th to 20th, 2025, the Student Union and Student Association of the Faculty of Linguistics, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, organized the volunteer campaign "Green Summer 2025: Green Border Dew" at Ban Cam Primary School, Phong Hai commune, Lao Cai province.
The trip lasted 4 days and 3 nights – short in duration but full of memorable moments, as each step of the volunteers left its mark on the mist-shrouded highlands, carrying with it enthusiasm, a spirit of sharing, and faith in kindness.
As part of their volunteer campaign, students from the Faculty of Linguistics directly implemented four youth projects at Ban Cam Primary School in Phong Hai commune, Lao Cai province. Each project not only had material significance but also clearly demonstrated a sense of responsibility and a desire to share with the disadvantaged community in the highlands.
The "Providing Sunlight for Children" project involves erecting canopies in the schoolyard to create a safer learning and living space for students in the harsh, hot weather. This is one of the top priority projects contributing to improving the school environment in the local area.
A new canopy has been erected in the schoolyard.
Following this was the "Accompanying You to School" project, in which the school corridors and gate were completely repainted in bright, welcoming colors. Each brushstroke was meticulously executed by students from the Faculty of Linguistics, as a way of conveying their affection and hoping that the students would feel the care and encouragement from their older siblings from Hanoi.

Inside the classroom, the structure “"Points of Love"The learning environment has been completely transformed. The old, dilapidated walls have been cleaned and repainted, bringing vibrancy and warmth to the classrooms. Each coat of paint is not just a physical renovation, but also the result of the perseverance, meticulousness, and sense of responsibility of the Linguistics students towards the school environment for the children here.

The "Environmental Protection Awareness Campaign" was implemented through an extracurricular activity for all students in the school. With its relatable and practical content, the campaign helped students begin to develop an awareness of protecting their living environment – a topic that is still unfamiliar but extremely necessary in mountainous areas like Phong Hai.
Volunteers and children participated together in the "Environmental Protection Awareness" session.

Sow love, reap smiles.
Throughout the journey, the students from the Faculty of Linguistics received dedicated support from the teachers at the school and invaluable companionship from the villagers and local leaders. Despite the many shortcomings, the friendliness, hospitality, and kindness of the people here left the deepest and most sincere impressions on the members of the volunteer team.
Local leaders presented gifts and showed their care for the volunteers.
In particular, it was the students themselves who left an indelible mark on the hearts of the university students. From their initial shy glances, they gradually opened up, clinging to their "older brothers and sisters from the capital." Some chattered excitedly, some slipped tiny wild berries into the students' hands as precious gifts, and some gently nestled into the laps of their older friends as if finding a long-lost sense of familiarity.
A heartwarming moment between volunteers and children during a break.
All those little things – smiles, handshakes, affectionate glances – made each activity more meaningful than ever.
The trip concluded with a warm farewell gathering, where small gifts were personally handed to the students as a token of love. Although the journey has ended, the memories, emotions, and bonds will remain in the hearts of everyone who set foot on that misty borderland.
Small gifts were delivered directly to the children in the mountainous Phong Hai area.
The Green Border Campaign is more than just a campaign. It's a place where the youth of the Linguistics Department can test their abilities, live out their ideals and aspirations for contribution. It's a place where the hearts of each volunteer learn to empathize, share, and appreciate the little things around them.
