Variety of volunteer activities
During the past school year, the Youth Union and Student Association of the School focused on diversifying volunteer activities such as: promoting on-site volunteer activities, linking volunteer activities with the professional characteristics of units, developing volunteer activities at the Youth Union and Student Association branches, in order to attract and maximize the capacity of student union members.
On-site volunteering has become a familiar meeting place for students throughout the school. With the establishment of the youth team promoting humanitarian blood donation, humanitarian blood donation activities"Humanistic pink sunshine"has become a festival for union members and students of the whole school.
Notable figures of on-site volunteer activities include: the humane pink sunshine festival collected 641 units of blood; the green humane festival attracted 600 volunteers to participate in on-site volunteering with activities such as cleaning computer rooms, cleaning lecture halls, removing blackboard tape, and posting propaganda posters to clean stone benches and rows of trees... These activities have demonstrated many practical meanings, while raising awareness of environmental hygiene and pedagogical landscape in the School.
Union of Youth Union, Union of Psychology Faculty with volunteer activity "Warm clothes for children"
Along with on-site volunteer activities, the Youth Union and Student Association of the School have directed and supported units in volunteer activities related to expertise to promote the strengths of student union members.
Activities of the Youth Union in the past school year in volunteer work to remote areas such as: Youth Union, Psychology Faculty Association with volunteer activitiesWarm clothes for youin Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai; or the Union of Youth Unions and Associations of the Faculty of Information and Library with the project“Mobile Library Up”in Ta Voi, Lao Cai... along with many other trips of all faculties in the school have created very unique volunteer colors of Nhan Van.
Besides, there are volunteer activities of clubs with brands associated with the School such as: activities“Warm winter Dong Van”;“Square Tet”; “May Knights”;work“Singing forever about you”; “My Dream Journey”;Ha Giang Smile Activities“Summer of the Red Dao”...All activities are very effective, maximizing the volunteer spirit of the school's youth.
The 2015 Green Summer Campaign was a great success. Specifically, the exam support activity took place from May 28 to August 6, 2015. The student volunteer team carried out activities in 2 rounds of the VNU-Hanoi capacity assessment exam and the National High School Exam with a total of 130 volunteers during 3 rounds.
The team searched for and gathered 87 cheap lodgings (including 13 free lodgings), stabilized order around the exam area, provided advice and guidance on accommodations for 665 candidates, supported 728 bottles of water, 800 free meals, 1,180 maps and 1,110 hand fans for candidates and their parents. The team also mobilized 50 bottles of purified water and 16 boxes of free iced tea for parents while they waited. The team also guided and picked up disabled candidates, late candidates, candidates who went to the wrong exam location, and supported maintaining security and order around the exam area.
In order for the above activities to be widely disseminated and to convey enthusiasm and inspiration to students throughout the school, the campaign reporters worked enthusiastically and passionately, recording beautiful moments, sincere confidences of volunteers and places marked by the footsteps of the green-shirted soldiers of Humanities. Contributing to creating a diverse and colorful picture, reflecting the youthfulness and enthusiasm of the Humanities youth.
The student volunteer team returns to the source of youth. The school organizes the "Colors of Childhood" contest in Van Tho commune.
Humanistic Youth Journey "Back to the Source"
Towards the 70th anniversary of the tradition and 20th anniversary of the founding of the School, the School Youth Union organized 4 volunteer student teams to return to the roots, to the places where teachers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities evacuated during the resistance war against the US. Those are Hoang Dong and Van Tho communes, Dai Tu district, Thai Nguyen; Dung Liet and Yen Trung communes, Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province.
Volunteer teams here have built many youth projects such as: a road to light up the countryside, two humanistic bookcases, a national flagpole and 18 pesticide packaging tanks with a total value of 34.5 million VND.
Volunteer teams also paid attention and created playgrounds for local children, such as the "Colors of Childhood" painting contest in Van Tho commune; the "A Glimpse of the Homeland" painting contest in Dung Liet commune; opened English classes and group activity classes. The teams also presented 72 gifts to disadvantaged students and visited and presented gifts to 63 families with revolutionary contributions, with a total value of 18.5 million. Activities of participating in cultural performances with young people, supporting people to increase production, and protecting the environment were all organized effectively.
Combining volunteering with professional activities
This activity is most clearly demonstrated in the cultural and historical propaganda of Thang Long - Hanoi. Based on the previously deployed teams, at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year, the School Youth Union Executive Committee decided to establish"Historical and cultural propaganda team"with the main focus on promoting cultural and historical values. At the same time, support tourist guides at relics and museums.
During the past school year, especially during the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the capital and this past summer, the school's green uniform appeared at the Vietnam National Museum of History, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Temple of Literature and Ho Chi Minh Museum. Thousands of visitors were guided, given travel advice and were promoted the cultural and historical values of the capital and the country.
Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Vice Principal of the school) led a working delegation to visit and encourage cultural and historical propaganda teams.
In addition, the clubs also actively participate in investigating and surveying the needs of visitors to some locations. Support the Management Board in filming, taking photos, and promoting the image of the location. Actively coordinate with the Monument Management Board in some professional activities.
After nearly a year of operation, the club has done its job well. Volunteers have demonstrated their abilities by regularly guiding foreign tourists, receiving much sympathy from tourists and satisfaction from the Management Board.
In his speech at the "Youth Journey" program, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh, Vice Principal of the University, expressed his honor and pride when learning about the results that the school's youth have achieved. The numbers and achievements that you have achieved are truly impressive. "This has inspired in me a simple wish to be young again like you, to wear the green volunteer shirt like you. Something that did not exist more than 30 years ago, when I was studying at the University of General Sciences", Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh shared.
In order not to regret the university time, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh advised: “You are having the most beautiful years of your life. Study hard, play hard and dedicate yourself because the university years are years that you will never have again, so that later we will not regret that we did not do all the things we wanted to do”.
It can be said that the past school year has witnessed many achievements in volunteer work, bringing the image and reputation of the School to the community, contributing to the overall success of the School's youth. With outstanding achievements leading the emulation of the Youth Union and VNU Association work. This has created strong motivation for us to enter the new school year with an excited and enthusiastic spirit to achieve new achievements and victories.
