10. Summary of the project findings

This applied master’s project examines the development, implementation, and evaluation of communication for the US-HIFU service at Thien An Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from January 1 to August 31, 2026. Ultrasound-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound is a technique that focuses ultrasonic energy on target tissue under ultrasound guidance and may be considered for appropriately selected patients. Communicating such a high-technology medical service requires more than promoting a new procedure. Patients need accessible and reliable explanations of indications, expected benefits, limitations, costs, and the pathway to professional consultation. The project therefore aims to improve the coordination and consistency of communication across channels, departments, and patient touchpoints while supporting informed engagement with clinical advice.

The theoretical foundation combines Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) and the Health Belief Model (HBM). IMC provides principles for managing core messages, coordinating channels and touchpoints, and maintaining continuity between communication activities. HBM supports the identification of perceived benefits, barriers, health-related beliefs, and cues to action. Drawing on these perspectives, the project outlines a six-component communication management framework covering audience and context analysis, objectives, message management, channel coordination, implementation and interdepartmental cooperation, and measurement and adjustment. The framework is an applied adaptation for a specific hospital context rather than a claim to establish a new theory.

The project uses document review, questionnaire surveys, in-depth interviews, and descriptive analysis of operational records. A survey of 200 patients treated in 2025 provides pre-implementation information about audiences, information needs, trusted sources, and perceived barriers. Meta analytics, Pancake interaction records, communication reports, and records of consultation, appointment booking, and medical examinations are used to describe implementation during the first eight months of 2026. An additional post-implementation survey obtained 80 valid responses. These responses help describe information clarity and patient experiences, but they cannot be generalized to all 367 patients who underwent US-HIFU during that period. The two survey groups are independent rather than a longitudinal panel.

The main applied output is a five-stage communication model organized around the patient journey: awareness; understanding and perception formation; consideration and barrier reduction; consultation, medical examination, and service access; and continued contact and post-treatment follow-up. The model coordinates Facebook, TikTok, the hospital website, press and television coverage, professional interviews, direct events, and in-hospital materials with Pancake, Zalo, hotline consultations, and direct medical advice. Implementation involved the Communication Department, Customer Care staff, and clinicians, with attention to medical review, consistent responses to common questions, appointment guidance, and ongoing feedback.

Implementation expanded the distribution of US-HIFU information across more than 60 press organizations and media channels, alongside the international US-HIFU conference in March 2026 and a patient consultation workshop in August 2026. Overall metrics for the hospital’s Facebook Page increased compared with the corresponding period in 2025; however, these are hospital-wide Page indicators and cannot be attributed exclusively to the US-HIFU project. Pancake and operational data also make it possible to follow movement through the service-access journey: 15,095 messages or interactions, 1,921 cases with contact details and initial consultation, 1,011 appointment bookings, 728 examination visits, and 222 US-HIFU procedures within the tracked dataset. The last figure is not treated as a pure communication performance indicator, since treatment depends on clinical eligibility, medical advice, and patients’ decisions.

Among the 80 post-implementation survey participants, 91.2% described the information as very clear and easy to understand. Sixty percent reported an experience better than expected, while 40.0% considered their experience consistent with the communication they had received. In addition, 96.2% stated that they would definitely recommend the service. These findings provide positive evidence regarding clarity, consultation continuity, and perceived service experience within the surveyed group. Nevertheless, the project does not interpret differences between the two independent surveys as proof of a direct causal impact. It also identifies continuing limitations in US-HIFU-specific measurement, cross-channel data integration, and continuity of post-treatment follow-up records.

11. Practical applicability

The project has been applied at Thien An Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital and provides an operational reference for managing healthcare communication across a connected patient journey rather than through isolated channel-based activities. Its practical applications include standardizing explanations of indications, expected benefits, and limitations; assigning complementary functions to digital, interpersonal, and clinical touchpoints; collecting recurring patient questions as input for content planning; and tracking the progression from interaction to consultation, booking, and examination. The approach may also inform communication management for other specialized medical services that involve complex information and decisions requiring professional assessment.

Further application at the hospital could involve a verified frequently asked questions library, physician-led explanatory videos, patient follow-up content, and standardized data fields across Pancake and customer relationship management systems. More consistent indicators at each journey stage, stronger data analysis capacity, and regular coordination between Communication, Customer Care, and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department are also recommended. Throughout this process, medically reviewed information should remain central, and communication must not promise uniform clinical outcomes.

12. Further research directions

Future work may examine the model over a longer implementation period and test its applicability to other high-technology healthcare services. Additional research could explore integration of communication, consultation, medical examination, and follow-up datasets; refine indicators of information comprehension and access to clinical consultation; and investigate how different patient groups use and move between touchpoints. Designs with more comparable samples or stronger longitudinal follow-up could help distinguish changes in communication outcomes from differences in respondents. The role of standardized medical content, customer relationship management tools, and data analytics in healthcare communication governance also warrants further study.
