2.Objectives of the training program

2.1. General Objectives

Based on the selective adoption of fundamental knowledge from anthropological traditions in developed countries, and inheriting the tradition of training and research in Vietnamese ethnology, the research-oriented Master's program in Anthropology aims to train professional anthropologists capable of research and teaching, applying anthropological knowledge and methods to solve scientific and practical problems, and integrating with the international anthropological community.

2.2. Specific objectives:To train professional anthropologists with master's degrees capable of undertaking the following types of work:

  • Group 1: Research and teaching staff at research and educational institutions: are professional anthropologists with theoretical knowledge and skills in anthropology, mastering knowledge of fundamental topics in the field, capable of undertaking research and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on human beings, culture, and human society;
  • Group 2: Officials and employees working in Party and government agencies, mass organizations, international and non-governmental organizations, and other socio-political organizations that need to use anthropological knowledge and research methods, for example, museums, tourist areas, nature reserves, libraries, etc.;
  • Group 3Anthropology consultants and practitioners: capable of undertaking applied work serving the planning and implementation of social policies, such as policy research, impact assessment, needs assessment, ethnographic research, community development and social development expertise, and managing and directing research or application programs/projects related to anthropological knowledge and research methods.

3. Admission Information

3.1 Entrance Examination Subjects

  • Admission for foreign nationals will be conducted according to current regulations;
  • Entrance examination for Vietnamese citizens. The subjects for the entrance examination include:

+ Basic Examination Subject: Ethnic Groups and Ethnic Policies in Vietnam

+ Foundation subject: General Anthropology

+ Foreign Language: Choose one of five languages: English, Russian, French, German, or Chinese.

3.2 Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or a related field;
  • Graduates in related fields have completed additional courses.

3.3 List of correct majors, suitable majors, related majors, and supplementary knowledge

3.3.1. List of correct and suitable majors: Anthropology, History (with a specialization in Ethnology).

3.3.2. List of related and supplementary industries

  • Related fields of study: Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Vietnamese Studies, Cultural Studies, Political Science, Vietnamese Ethnic Minority Culture, Museology.
  • Supplementary knowledge block: Candidates from the aforementioned related fields must complete a 12-credit supplementary knowledge program consisting of the following four modules:
