1. Purpose and research objects of the thesis

-The research objectives of the thesis are:

+ Build a theoretical framework on narrative language, specify the steps to approach narrative works.

+ Find out the characteristics of narrative language use of writers Nguyen Cong Hoan and Nam Cao, from which to make an initial assessment of the characteristics of narrative language of Vietnamese Critical Realism literature 1930 - 1945.

- Thesis research object: The thesis research object is the storytelling method in the short story Critical Realism by Nguyen Cong Hoan and Nam Cao.

2. Research methods used

- The thesis uses research methods:

+ The method of discourse analysis has the effect of analyzing and explaining the characteristics of narrative language from two approaches: linguistic and stylistic.

+The method of conversation analysis helps to clarify and explain the linguistic characteristics of dialogue and interior monologue.

-In addition, in the thesis we also use some other techniques such as: comparison, statistics, transformation...

3. Main results and conclusions

3.1. Main results

The thesis has presented, systematized and evaluated the research results on narrative language; selectively applied these theoretical bases, and deployed them into specific steps to analyze narrative language. For the first time, the thesis has conducted an in-depth and systematic study on the narrative language of the two writers Nguyen Cong Hoan and Nam Cao in correlation and comparison to gradually draw out the basic characteristics of Vietnamese HTPP literature from 1930 to 1945; contributing to supplementing the theory of narrative language research. The research results of the thesis will contribute to innovating the teaching of works by Nguyen Cong Hoan and Nam Cao in schools.

3.2. Conclusion

The thesis has analyzed scientifically and systematically the ability to use the storytelling method of Nguyen Cong Hoan and Nam Cao, specifically the characteristics of the narrator's words in relation to the artistic point of view; the use of dialogue, internal monologue; modal means in the process of modalizing the narrative language according to the point of view. The research results allow to confirm the characteristics of the artistic style and creative personality of the writers. This is shown:

+ Writer Nguyen Cong Hoan often tends to tell stories from an outside, objective perspective; the storytelling language is full of humor and satire.

+ Writer Nam Cao often tends to tell stories from an internal, subjective perspective; the storytelling language is imbued with tragedy and philosophy.

+ Method of discourse analysis is used to analyze and explain characteristics of narrative language from both the linguistic approach and the learning style approach.

+Method of dialogue analysis helps to clarify and explain thelanguage characteristics of dialogue and inner dialogue.

-In addition, in the thesis we also use some other methods such as comparison, statistics, modification, etc.

3. Major results and conclusions

3.1. The major results

The thesis presented, systematized and evaluated the results of research on narrative language; applied these theories in a selective way and developed them into specific steps to analyze the narrative language. For the first time, the thesis has studied in depth and scientifically the narrative language of writers Nguyen Cong Hoan and Nam Cao in correlation and comparison to gradually draw the basic characteristics of Vietnamese critical reality literature in 1930–1945 period; this supplemented to the theory of narrative language research. The research results of the thesis will contribute to renovating the teaching of the works of Nguyen Cong Hoan and Nam Cao in the schools.

3.2. Conclusions

The thesis analyzed scientifically and scientifically the ability to use the narrative method of Nguyen Cong Hoan and Nam Cao, namely the characteristics of the narrator in relation to the point of view of art; how to use dialogue, inner dialogue; The means of modality in the process of modalization of narrative language rely on point of view. Research results confirm the characteristics of artistic style and creative personality of the writers. This is shown as follows:

+ Nguyen Cong Hoan is inclined to narrative method from the outside pint of view, objectivity; his narrative language is deeply humorous and satirical.

+ Nam Cao is inclined to narrative method from the inside point of view, subjectivity; his narrative language is deeply tragic and philosophical.
