10. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

- The thesis presented the theoretical foundations of Japanese cultural diplomacy in general, and the internal and external factors influencing Japan's cultural diplomacy towards Southeast Asia in particular.

- The thesis has summarized the formation and development process, forms, organization, funding, objectives, and main content of Japan's cultural diplomacy policy.

- The thesis presented the objectives and content of Japan's cultural diplomacy policy towards Southeast Asia through two major periods: 1977–2001 and 2001–2016. From this, it identified the characteristics of the two periods, compared them to understand the shifts in policy, and assessed the strengths and weaknesses of Japan's cultural diplomacy in Southeast Asia.

- This thesis synthesizes the results of public opinion surveys in Southeast Asian countries, thereby assessing the reception of Japanese cultural diplomacy by people in Southeast Asia.

Based on the global political situation, the objectives of the Japanese government, and the needs of the people of Southeast Asia, this thesis infers the prospects of Japanese cultural diplomacy in the region in the future.

- The thesis explains the theoretical foundations of Japanese culture

diplomacy in general, both internal and external factors affecting Japanese cultural diplomacy towards Southeast Asia in particular.

- The thesis summarizes the process of formation and development, types,

organizations, funds, objectives and main contents of Japan's cultural diplomacy.

- The thesis presents the objectives, contents, and the implementation of

Japanese cultural diplomacy policy towards Southeast Asia through two major periods 1977 - 2001 and 2001 – 2016. Based on this the thesis tried to characterize, and to compare these two stages to see the changes as well as the advantages and disadvantages of Japanese cultural diplomacy towards Southeast Asia.

- The thesis summarizes the findings from the sociological survey in some

Southeast Asian countries, and can assess the attitudes of the Southeast Asian people towards Japanese cultural diplomacy.

- Based on the world's political situation, the interests of the Japanese
