11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
This dissertation systematically and comprehensively studies the relationship between the East Asian context and the Ming Dynasty's invasion of Dai Viet; it explains the reasons why the Ming Dynasty chose Vietnam as its target of invasion in the context of East Asia at that time. The dissertation contributes to understanding the diplomatic policies, conspiracies, and ambitions of the Ming Dynasty towards Dai Viet in particular and East Asia in general, revealing the true nature of the invasion. The dissertation assesses the impacts and effects of this invasion on East Asia in the early 15th century, the reactions of East Asian countries to this event, and its long-term consequences.
This thesis concludes on the importance of Dai Viet in the political and economic landscape of East Asia, arguing that the Ming dynasty's southward expansionist policies were a major cause of its invasion of Dai Viet. The Ming dynasty exploited conflicts within Dai Viet and between Dai Viet and its neighbors as a pretext for its invasion. They expanded their territory militarily to seize economic and political resources and plotted to destroy Dai Viet. This created significant changes in East Asian politics and military affairs, and provided the basis for the Ming dynasty's expansion of influence and culture. Several nations recognized this reality and proactively developed countermeasures. Despite suffering severe economic, political, and cultural consequences, Dai Viet waged a strong resistance to rebuild its long-term independence starting in 1428.
