2. Objectives of the training program:

2.1. General Objectives

The research-oriented Master's program in Archival Studies equips students with a solid theoretical foundation in archival science and methodology to enhance their research capabilities and thinking in this field. In addition, it refines their thinking on organizing and managing archival work, organizing and managing the implementation of archival tasks, and developing their ability to teach at the university level in their specialized field.

2.2. Specific Objectives

2.2.1. Regarding knowledgeEquip students with fundamental and advanced knowledge in the following areas:

- A foundational body of knowledge in public administration, document management systems, and the history of written documents.

- A body of in-depth knowledge in archival studies;

- Supplementary and elective courses are offered to meet the diverse career requirements of learners.

2.2.2. Regarding capabilitiesUpon completion of the program, students will possess the following competencies:

- Possess a firm grasp of fundamental archival principles, capable of identifying theoretical and practical issues requiring research and resolution; thereby advising and consulting on organizational, management, and policy measures in the field of archives for leaders and managers at all levels;

- Capable of working independently or organizing a team or group to conduct research and solve problems in the field of archival studies.

2.2.3. Regarding skills:

- Capable of applying scientific methods to approach and solve theoretical and practical problems in archival work and in ensuring and providing archival information to leaders and managers in state agencies, social organizations, and businesses;

- Capable of conducting research and teaching at administrative schools, high schools, colleges, and universities in their trained professional fields.

2.2.4. Regarding researchEquipping individuals with the ability to conduct independent research on issues within the field of archival studies. Specifically, as follows:

- Researching new theories in archival science;

- To research the scientific and practical basis of document management and archiving in order to advise the Party and the State on formulating policies and guidelines that are in line with current development trends;

 

- Researching the impacts of changes in modern society on archival practices;

- Research measures to improve the quality of archiving in agencies, organizations, and businesses.

3. Admission Information

3.1. Admission methods

- The entrance exam will include the following subjects:

+ Basic Exam Subject: Document Management

+ Fundamentals Exam: Theory and Methods of Archival Work

+ Foreign Language: One of five languages: English, Russian, French, German, or Chinese.

3.2. Eligibility Criteria

- Bachelor's degree in Archival Studies or a related field including Archival Studies and Office Management (for students who graduated in 2015 or earlier); bachelor's degree in related fields who have completed a conversion program (list of supplementary courses in section 3.4);

ButWork experience required: None.
