Elevating and affirming the leading role of Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Vietnamese higher education.

That was the direction of the Chairman of the Council, President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi Hoang Minh Son at the working session with key leaders of the expansion of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the afternoon of September 16, 2025.
The meeting was attended by leaders of functional units of Hanoi National University; current and former leaders of the university; and leaders of faculties/institutes/centers and functional departments of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This was the first visit and working trip of the new Director to member universities of Hanoi National University.

Professor Phung Huu Phu, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Hanoi National University, Chairman of the Science and Training Council, and the first Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, emphasized: Throughout its 80-year history, from the Faculty of Literature to the 30 years under the name of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the university has been a place where the identity, beliefs, and inherent strength are crystallized, closely linked to the historical mission, brand, and prestige of Hanoi National University.

Speaking at the meeting, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, affirmed that throughout its development, the university remains steadfast in its educational philosophy of "Cultural Heritage - Modernity - Enlightenment," with core values ​​of "Pioneering, creativity, high level, high quality."
In his report on the organization and operation of the university in 2024-2025 and the orientation and key tasks for the 2025-2026 academic year, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities emphasized five key tasks. These are: restructuring the organizational apparatus towards a streamlined, efficient, and strong system; modern university governance to ensure university autonomy; training and attracting scientific talent to develop outstanding leading experts, an excellent faculty community, a skilled and dedicated management team, and professional and service-oriented administrative staff.
In the 2025-2026 academic year, the university plans to develop its academic structure and training programs towards multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, cross-field, internationalization, and applied-oriented basic science, aiming to provide a highly qualified workforce for the country's new development era. It will continue to promote international publications in harmony with national publications, implement key long-term scientific programs with clusters of outstanding scientific products, aiming for prestigious national and international scientific awards, and provide top-level policy advice to central and local governments. It will also develop a financial strategy consistent with university autonomy, and harmoniously develop the Hoa Lac and Thuong Dinh areas to expand the university's development potential.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, reported on the organization and activities of the university.
With the philosophy of "Academic foundation, modernity as the trend," alongside its traditional strengths in basic sciences, the university has expanded its training to new disciplines, meeting the development needs of the country. It is the first university in Vietnam to publish a digital competency framework for students and one of six universities participating in the development of the "Digital Literacy Program" in accordance with Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.

In a warm, sincere, and open atmosphere, Director Hoang Minh Son shared: “I feel very fortunate and honored to collaborate with the esteemed professors in a prestigious, dynamic, and innovative academic environment like Hanoi National University. The contributions of the professors from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities are not only professional but also demonstrate strategic vision, a sense of responsibility, and a desire to contribute.”
Expressing his delight at the significant changes at the university, Director Hoang Minh Son stated that, with its rich 80-year tradition, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has been and continues to uphold its leading position nationwide in training and research in the field of social sciences and humanities; affirming the leading role of the university in particular, and Hanoi National University in general, in the country's higher education.
President Hoang Minh Son expressed his confidence and expectations for the development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the coming time.
During the meeting, the new Director of Hanoi National University listened to the thoughts, aspirations, and proposals of the university's leadership and faculties/institutes regarding the reform of training programs, the development of cutting-edge training programs that leverage the university's strengths; the development of a successor team of lecturers and scientists; policies to support material resources and mechanisms for standardizing academic titles and degrees in accordance with the specific characteristics of each training field; the development of long-term research projects; and enhancing the position of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular and Hanoi National University in general in pioneering, innovating, and leading the way in training, research, and policy consulting…

President Hoang Minh Son affirmed that Vietnam National University, Hanoi is not only a university, but also carries a national responsibility. The construction of two national universities (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) is to become the locomotive, pioneering leader of the higher education system. This responsibility is clearly defined by the Party and the State in many resolutions, including Resolution 71 on "Breakthrough in education and training development" and Resolution 57 on "Breakthrough in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation".
Accordingly, the national goal is to develop 3 to 5 elite universities of international caliber, becoming centers for research and talent development. Among these, Hanoi National University must hold a leading position. This requires synchronized development in terms of specific mechanisms, targeted investment, creating incentives for teachers and students; expanding the space for digital university development, and university autonomy.
The Rector of Hanoi National University expects that, in the future, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will become a leading research, training, and policy consulting center in the region, not only contributing to preserving and promoting traditional values, but also pioneering in solving new social issues arising in the digital age.
With a dedicated faculty and a solid academic background, the University will continue to affirm its leading position in the national higher education system, while making significant contributions to the sustainable development, integration, and rich cultural identity of the country.
During the working session, Director Hoang Minh Son and the delegation visited the Museum of History and Culture, the practice room of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, met with teachers and students in the classroom, and visited some functional rooms of the school.
