Bringing together the wisdom and diverse perspectives of reputable scholars and experts.The seminar was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Vietnam, the Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Vietnam, representatives from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) office in Vietnam, the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Rikkyo University (Japan), and many leaders from management agencies, organizations, businesses, and research institutes both domestically and internationally.


In her opening remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, affirmed that the conference is not only an academic event bringing together the intellect and diverse perspectives of leading scholars, policymakers, and experts from both within and outside the country, but also a special milestone celebrating 80 years of academic tradition, 30 years since the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and 30 years since the establishment of the Faculty of Tourism Studies (1995 - 2025).

The conference received 59 scientific papers, showcasing the diversity and depth of current tourism research. In-depth discussions revolved around three main themes: Tourism Development and Impact: focusing on new tourism models such as fisheries-based tourism in Sri Lanka, heritage tourism, the economic impact of MICE tourism, and regenerative tourism; Tourism Destination Management: addressing African cultural heritage tourism, destination attributes, competitiveness issues, historical site management in Vietnam, and destination branding; Digital Transformation in Tourism and Socio-Economic Impact: researching the spillover effects of agricultural tourism in India, and the influence of technology, social media, and emotional intelligence on the tourism industry.
Forum for Academic Cooperation and Sustainable Tourism DevelopmentIn his welcoming remarks at the workshop, Dr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, stated that according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), global tourism revenue is projected to reach US$1.7 trillion in 2024, an 11% increase compared to 2023 and a 14% increase compared to 2019. Average spending per trip is projected at US$1,160, compared to US$1,000 before the pandemic, indicating a significant increase in average tourist spending. However, the recovery process remains uneven. Some regions have surpassed 2019 levels, while others still face limitations in connectivity, human resources, and sustainability.
In Vietnam, tourism is also experiencing strong growth. In 2024, Vietnam welcomed 17.5 million international visitors and 110 million domestic visitors, generating total revenue of 840 trillion VND – clear evidence of market confidence and effective policy direction. In the first nine months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed 15.4 million international visitors, a 22% increase compared to the same period last year.
According to Dr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the tourism industry today is driven by knowledge, propelled by technology, and guided by humanistic values.
“The tourism industry today is driven by knowledge, propelled by technology, and guided by human values – aiming for memorable experiences while preserving and sustainably developing destinations together with the community,” emphasized Dr. Ha Van Sieu, affirming the essential role of research and education in guiding the transformation of tourism in the new era.
The workshop provided an opportunity for scientists and tourism managers from many countries to exchange experiences, share research results, and discuss practical collaborative solutions.
Outstanding presentations from Prof. Dr. Mizukami Tetsuo (Rikkyo University - Japan); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Long (Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities), Dr. Bui Van Manh - Director of Ninh Binh Department of Tourism… provided many in-depth perspectives, creative ideas, and practical recommendations. These presentations also serve as a valuable resource for policymakers, academics, and businesses, contributing to the sustainable development of tourism in Vietnam in particular and globally in general.

Faculty of Tourism Studies - 30 years of pioneering in tourism training and research.The Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was established on October 21, 1995, with the mission of laying the foundation for training high-quality tourism human resources in a scientifically oriented, integrated, and modern manner.
Over 30 years of development, the Faculty of Tourism Studies has become a leading and reputable institution in the field of tourism training and research in Vietnam.
The Faculty has established a comprehensive training system from Bachelor's, Master's to Doctoral degrees, being the first unit nationwide to be licensed to provide training at all three levels. With an elite faculty and extensive international cooperation network, the Faculty has trained over 55,000 bachelors, 660 masters, and 16 doctorates, making a significant contribution to the development of Vietnam's tourism industry.
The Faculty of Tourism Studies and many individuals have been honored with numerous prestigious awards from the State and various levels and sectors. In particular, the Faculty received a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister (in 2002) and the Vietnam Tourism Award 2025 with the title of "Best Tourism Training Institution" awarded by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This is well-deserved recognition for their tireless efforts, a source of pride, and a great motivation for the Faculty to continue striving.
