Speaking at the seminar, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen emphasized that the use of AI in newsrooms is not new, but what AI applications newsrooms are currently using, for what purposes, and what policies govern the use of AI... to optimize AI in the work of journalists and newsrooms are still issues that need in-depth discussion. The aforementioned seminar, organized by the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, will provide an insider's perspective on newsrooms through the research results of Professor Gary Mariano - former Head of the Communication Department, De La Salle University, Philippines.
Overview of the seminar "Policies on managing and using AI in newsrooms in the Philippines and suggestions for Vietnam"
Professor Gary Mariano opened his presentation with the question: Are you afraid that in the not-too-distant future, AI will take your job, leaving you unemployed? The question received many enthusiastic responses from the faculty and students in the audience.

Professor Gary Mariano introduced methods for editing and designing old print publications using tools like Aldus PageMaker, Notepad, etc., and compared them with new AI tools like Chat GPT to show that the application of AI tools in editing and designing journalistic publications is significantly more efficient and faster.

In the next part of the presentation, Professor Gary Mariano introduced the applications of AI to optimize the production of journalistic publications in the Philippines, such as data analysis, text editing, interviewing, fact-checking, and image creation. However, he also analyzed the risks of applying AI in journalism, such as bias, inaccuracies due to the AI's perceived "confidence," and privacy issues when AI receives user-provided information.

Professor Gary Mariano further analyzed the GenAI-related policies adopted by Philippine newsrooms, while also analyzing UNESCO's "Ethical Recommendations on Artificial Intelligence" and comparing them with the theoretical frameworks of Rogers (1962) and Cools & Diakopoulos (2023).
Professor Gary Mariano's presentation received numerous questions from students, lecturers, experts, journalists, and media managers in Vietnam.
During the discussion, Ms. Phan Thanh Thuy, Editorial Secretary of VTC Now, shared the practical situation of applying AI tools in the production of journalistic publications at the editorial office and asked Professor Gary Mariano about how to overcome AI errors in the production process.
