Webometrics World Rankings July 2021: Vietnam National University, Hanoi in the top 1000 excellent higher education institutions.

On July 27, 2021, Cybermetrics Labs (part of the Spanish National Research Council) announced the results of the second Webometrics ranking of 2021. With this ranking, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) is among the top 1000 best higher education institutions, ranking 959th.

Webometrics is an automated ranking system that assesses the digital capabilities and the reach and influence of academic resources of higher education institutions based on indicators of the reach and influence of their websites and online information systems.impact), openness to academic resources (mouth) on Google Scholar, and scientific citation index on the Scopus database system (excellence) of a higher education institution.

In the July 2021 ranking, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continued to maintain its position as number 1 in Vietnam and among the top 1000 higher education institutions (ranked 959th, up 41 places compared to the January 2021 ranking, 220th in Asia and 17th in Southeast Asia).

Also in this ranking period, there was a significant increase in the criteria.Impact(Level of impact) – from ranking 1651 in January 2021 to 1289 in July 2021 – demonstrates the increasing influence of the VNU website not only on the domestic and international academic community but also its strong impact on society as a whole.

In this ranking period, Webometrics maintains the same ranking methodology as in the January 2021 ranking. Specifically, the criterion “Presence" (Amount of digitized resources) has been removed from the ranking method, criteriaImpact(Level of impact) has the highest weight (50%), followed by the criterionExcellence(Excellence) has a weight of 40% and criteriaOpenness(Academic openness) has a weight of 10%.

Earlier in June 2021, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) also received much positive information from prestigious ranking organizations. On June 23, Times Higher Education (THE) published the Young University Rankings 2021, ranking the best young universities in the world. Accordingly, Vietnam had two representatives in this prestigious ranking: Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) (top 251-300) and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) (top 401+).

On June 9, 2021, the QS World University Rankings 2022 ranked Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) in the 801-1000 group of the world's best universities for the fourth consecutive year. Although consistently maintaining this ranking group, VNU's ranking score has steadily increased, leading to a gradual improvement in its overall ranking. Specifically, in the three previous rankings, VNU was in the top 78.5% (2019), 74.9% (2020), and 67.5% (2021) of universities. In this ranking, VNU rose to the top 61.6% of universities worldwide.

On June 2nd, 2021, in the Times Higher Education (THE Asia) ranking of universities in Asia for the second consecutive year, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) remained in the top 251-300 group, ranking first in Vietnam. Maintaining its leading position in Vietnam for the second consecutive year in the THE Asia University Rankings 2021, with the highest overall score among the three Vietnamese higher education institutions (26.9–29.6), VNU also achieved the highest scores in 4 out of 5 ranking criteria (Teaching, Research, Citations, and International Outlook), while VNU-HCM had the highest score in the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Income criterion.
