Some people think that Political Science is a dry subject and that studying Political Science means studying purely theoretical political subjects. If you think so, you are truly mistaken. Although it is a relatively new field of study in Vietnam, Political Science has a history of hundreds of years and is especially emphasized in developed countries.

In modern society, Political Science is a popular field of study because it provides a fundamental knowledge base on political issues, political systems, political behavior, and the skills to solve problems encountered in the complex dynamics of life. It is considered a leading social science, rich in theoretical content and with strong practical applications.

Political science – based on a high level of interdisciplinary knowledge, combining Law, Management Science, International Relations, Sociology, Psychology, Journalism and Communication, etc. – can analyze and predict politics; study power in national and international relations, theories of major powers and superpowers; and provide policy advice to the Party and the State.

Professor Phung Huu Phu, Standing Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and Head of the Department of Political Science, stated: Political science has been established worldwide for over 100 years, but in Vietnam it remains a relatively young field. Therefore, the field of research on political history, political decisions, and political processes is very favorable and has promising prospects for development in Vietnam.

When studying for a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, students are equipped with a general foundation of knowledge in social sciences and humanities, while also receiving in-depth training in the knowledge system and research methods of Political Science, including:Political theory, Vietnamese politics, international politics, media politics, Ho Chi Minh studies..

It includes many interesting courses such asHistory of political theory, Political science research methods, Political parties, Comparative politics, Methods of writing political essays and presentations, Practice in political writing, Methods of approaching and handling political situations, Foreign policy of major powers, International political relations...

Political science knowledge is needed in many professions.

With a broad and deep foundation in Political Science, graduates of Political Science programs are fully capable of assuming advisory and consultative positions in agencies responsible for formulating the Party and State's policies; and in agencies and organizations within the political system and socio-economic organizations.

A significant number of these students work in research at political theory institutions; they also conduct research and teach Political Science in Party schools, universities, colleges, and vocational high schools.

Political science knowledge also helps students confidently participate in journalism and media activities as reporters, editors, and commentators on current events and politics at central and local newspapers and television stations.

The Faculty of Political Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is the first institution in the Vietnamese university system to offer Political Science programs at all three levels: Bachelor, Master, and Doctor.

In training and researching Political Science at a leading center of social sciences and humanities in the country, the Faculty places great importance on providing fundamental knowledge of Political Science, helping students understand core issues in international and national political life, and developing an analytical and evaluative perspective on the political situation from a comparative standpoint. At the same time, it also places great emphasis on fostering professional skills and practical experience in politics.

In addition, graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science can continue their studies at the postgraduate level (Master's and Doctoral) specializing in Political Science and Ho Chi Minh Studies. Students can also pursue a second or double undergraduate degree in related fields such as Management Science, Journalism and Communication, International Studies, Foreign Languages, etc.
