Conference summarizing the training activities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2022.

On December 19th, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a conference to summarize its training activities in 2022 and set directions and tasks for 2023. Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc (Head of Training Department, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) attended and gave a keynote address. The conference was attended by the Board of Directors, heads of departments, faculties/centers, and representatives from the Party and mass organizations of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Thanh Nam (Head of Training Department) presented the training work in 2022 and the plan for 2023, highlighting the achievements in training at all levels from bachelor's to doctoral; and the new points in the three training regulations. The report also pointed out existing shortcomings and proposed solutions. Based on the achievements, the report outlined the direction and specific targets for training in the 2023 academic year, focusing on several key solutions: Continuing to innovate the admissions process for all programs, enhancing the role of admissions counseling and communication; Regularly training and improving the capacity of management and teaching staff; Strengthening postgraduate training management by expanding the use of information technology systems;...
In her opening remarks at the conference, Vice Rector Dang Thi Thu Huong (in charge of training) emphasized: The 2021-2022 academic year was a special one, with many challenges from the pandemic and changes in the training regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnam National University, Hanoi. In the context of these general difficulties facing the entire sector and Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities maintained stable operations and achieved many noteworthy accomplishments in student recruitment and training at all levels, systems, and disciplines. However, given the demands of the new situation, increasingly fierce competition in training and research in the social sciences and humanities, especially the recently issued training regulations of Vietnam National University, Hanoi with many new points, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities needs to have breakthrough solutions in its training work.
Representatives from training institutions who participated in the Conference unanimously agreed with the results, strengths, and shortcomings of the training work outlined in the Report, and also proposed several specific solutions to improve the quality of training in the future. These solutions focused on the following issues:
- Regarding institutions, processes, and policies: consistency in guiding documents and quality monitoring procedures for learners needs to be more rigorous.
- Regarding curriculum: The curriculum framework structure should correspond to the learning outcomes suitable for each ngành; it needs to increase international integration, include comparative analysis, be comprehensive, reflect critical thinking, and keep pace with international standards.
- Solutions are needed to strengthen the workforce with qualified academic qualifications to meet the stringent requirements for opening new master's and doctoral programs.
- Review and reorganize training programs and specializations to make the most of existing resources.
Representing the leadership of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc (Head of Training Department) highly appreciated the initiative of the Faculty of Humanities in organizing a conference on training to listen to the very relevant, practical, and heartfelt opinions of the faculties/departments. Training is a key activity, closely linked to research; training and development are essential for the development of personnel and international publications. Therefore, the University needs specific orientations, strategies, and solutions for training in the short and long term, based on the strategy of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, updating to international standards but also suitable to practical needs and ensuring the principle that "quality is key and core".

Concluding the conference, Rector Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan thanked the leaders of Vietnam National University, Hanoi for their close attention and guidance. In the coming time, the university's training work will focus on expanding in scale while preserving core values, prioritizing quality development, and affirming its brand. This includes focusing on investing in human resources and developing staff in two areas: diversifying revenue sources to increase staff income and ensure job security; and investing in and supporting staff to continuously improve their professional qualifications and standardize the titles of Associate Professor and Professor.
