Following the success of the "Vietnamese Speech Contest for Lao Students in 2019", the 2023 contest will be expanded in scale, becoming a gathering and exchange place for all foreign students studying at universities, academies, colleges, pedagogical colleges, and Vietnamese language preparatory training facilities in Vietnam, thereby strengthening solidarity, friendship, and competition in learning.
With the theme "Vietnam in me", foreign students participating in the contest will share in Vietnamese their understanding of the country, people and culture of Vietnam; profound memories of life, study and living in Vietnam; and the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and the students' home country.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, there are currently about 22,000 foreign students studying in Vietnam. In the past 5 years (2016-2022), Vietnam has 155 educational institutions receiving and training more than 45,000 foreign students from 102 countries and territories. On average, each year, from 4,000 to over 6,000 international students are admitted to Vietnamese educational institutions, most of whom study Vietnamese language/Vietnamese studies, and majors taught in Vietnamese, so it is necessary to use Vietnamese in life and study.
Despite initial difficulties in language and living conditions, with the enthusiastic support of the teaching staff, students and Vietnamese people, along with the initiative and creativity of educational institutions in organizing training activities, foreign students have overcome language and cultural barriers and completed their study programs. Each foreign student, upon returning home, has been able to develop the knowledge and skills they have learned and practiced in Vietnam and has truly become a bridge for friendship between Vietnam and other countries.
