VNU-USSH jointly organized the competition "Learning about Mekong Sub-regional Cooperation".

On March 31, 2025, within the framework of Mekong-Lancang Week, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH), in collaboration with the Department of Economic Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, successfully organized the "Understanding Mekong Sub-regional Cooperation" competition. The competition aimed to enhance students' understanding of the Mekong-Lancang region; promote cooperation in the Mekong-Lancang region; and create a platform for university students to interact, exchange knowledge, and hone their skills.
The event was honored to welcome Mr. Mao Weicheng - Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam; Ms. Nguyen Bich Thuy - Deputy Director of the Department of Economic Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with faculty representatives from participating schools and members of the judging panel, as well as many experts in international relations from several universities in Hanoi.
The competition was attended by four teams of outstanding students from four universities: the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, the Academy of Journalism and Communication, and Hanoi University. The event also attracted the participation and support of nearly 400 students from the four universities.

In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the University Council), representing the organizing unit, shared: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is honored to be entrusted by the Economic Diplomacy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the task of hosting the 2nd Mekong Sub-region Cooperation Knowledge Contest. Representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs highly appreciated the idea of ​​organizing the competition and the proactive and responsible approach of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, not only successfully hosting this event but also actively and effectively participating in projects and action programs within the framework of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Mechanism.

Following the welcoming remarks from the distinguished guests, the three teams (each consisting of 4 members) officially began their exciting competitions through three rounds with the following themes:
Round 1: We are from the Mekong-Lancang region.
Round 2: Cooperation for Sustainable Development in the Mekong-Lancang Region
Round 3: Promoting international cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region

In each round of the competition, the teams demonstrated a broad and comprehensive understanding of the natural conditions, socio-economic factors, religion, culture, and environment of the six countries participating in the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.
Before the question"How can the younger generation contribute to the development of the Mekong sub-region in the new era, especially in the context of digitalization and innovation?"The judging panel, comprised of representatives from various universities, demonstrated a deep, comprehensive understanding and strong character, along with confident and fluent public speaking skills. The insights presented by the teams were highly appreciated by the judging panel and international relations experts from universities. This reflects the serious research, thorough preparation, and eagerness to learn and research shown by the students.

At the end of the competition, the Organizing Committee awarded the First Prize to the team from the Academy of Journalism and Communication, the Second Prize to the team from the Diplomatic Academy, and the Third Prize to two teams from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Hanoi University.
