In his opening speech at the conference, VNU President Le Quan emphasized the mission and role of the National University in the era of national development. Since its establishment, the Party and State leaders have prioritized and focused all resources on developing a multidisciplinary and multi-field training and scientific research center that reaches the world's advanced level to serve as the locomotive and core for the entire education and training system, human resource development, and cutting-edge scientific and technological research to serve the cause of sustainable development of the country. After 30 years of construction and development, VNU and Ho Chi Minh City National University have always adhered to that mission and increasingly demonstrated their roles and responsibilities in the new era - the era of national development.

In particular, the two VNUs also directly participate in solving practical problems at the national level, providing undeniable scientific arguments on national sovereignty; advising the Party and the Government on responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing policy advice for economic development, developing high-quality human resources for the country, etc. The two VNUs are the focal points for international academic exchange in the whole country.
