From the classroom to practice: Professor Lai Quoc Khanh and the journey to illuminate political thinking

(VNUmedia) Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh - Member of the Central Theoretical Council, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, a prestigious young teacher and scientist, always dedicated to the noble cause of educating people. Looking back at his career in training, scientific research and management, it can be seen that he has made important contributions to the development of modern Political Science in Vietnam.

Graduating with honors from university in 1998, new bachelor Lai Quoc Khanh was trusted by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to stay on as a lecturer at the Department of Political Science.
Recalling the first days of his career in Political Science research and training, he shared: “At that time, the Department of Political Science was in the early stages of development, the teaching staff was only a few people and had not yet implemented many professional activities. I was very lucky and honored to receive the attention, guidance and guidance of respected teachers such as Professor, Dr. Phung Huu Phu, Professor Dang Xuan Ky, Associate Professor, Meritorious Teacher Bui Thanh Quat, Associate Professor, People's Teacher Le Mau Han, ... and together with teachers and colleagues, step by step built training programs on Political Science and Ho Chi Minh studies at all three levels: bachelor's, master's and doctoral. Thanks to the tireless efforts, the Department has grown strongly, becoming the Faculty of Political Science and achieving the position it has today.”
Since then, Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh has begun his career as a teacher and a professional researcher in philosophy and political science. To date, the Professor has spent 26 years standing on the podium at many major universities both domestically and internationally.Many of Mr. Khanh's students, regardless of age and position, show respect and love, not only for his profound knowledge, but also for his inspiring teaching methods with engaging logical arguments, and especially for the respect, thoughtfulness, and warmth he shows his students.

As an excellent teacher and scientist, Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh is also a capable manager and leader. He devotes most of his time, intelligence and enthusiasm to teaching, to his students and to his research projects, but it is his ability to organize work and his scientific management thinking that brought him to management work quite early. He is the youngest Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities compared to his predecessors and also the Head of Department, Deputy Head of Faculty from a very young age... Prof. Khanh said that going through many different leadership and management positions has helped him gain practical experience, thereby contributing to deepening his scientific thinking.
After being appointed Associate Professor in 2012, from 2013 to the end of 2016, Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh continued to work at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities as Deputy Dean and Head of the Department of Ho Chi Minh Studies. His professional activities during this period focused on in-depth research on Ho Chi Minh Thought, especially Ho Chi Minh's Political Philosophy and related political theoretical and practical issues. This research direction has been maintained and developed by the professor to this day.
From early 2017 to early 2021, Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh was mobilized and appointed by the leaders of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) to hold the position of Deputy Director of the Tran Nhan Tong Institute. During this period, to serve the professional tasks of the Institute, the professor implemented the research direction of Buddhist Political Science. Up to now, this research direction has been continued to be expanded and developed by Mr. Khanh into Religious Political Science, especially since he was assigned to concurrently hold the position of Director of the Center for Contemporary Religious Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
In March 2021, the leaders of VNU transferred and appointed Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh to the position of Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In August 2021, the professor was appointed by the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the position of Member of the Central Theoretical Council. Since then, he has continued to develop a new research direction on Vietnamese Politics. This research direction focuses on identifying and solving problems of Vietnamese politics on the basis of applying Ho Chi Minh's thought in combination with modern political theories, in order to contribute to the effective implementation of the tasks of the Central Theoretical Council.

Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh has published many scientific works of high professional quality, including many articles in prestigious scientific journals at home and abroad; is the editor, author, and co-author of many monographs and textbooks, including textbooks used nationwide - Ho Chi Minh Thought, or textbooks that lay the foundation for a new field of study - Introductory Textbook on Ho Chi Minh Studies.
As a prestigious scientist, Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh is also known and highly appreciated by foreign scholars. He has been a visiting lecturer at National Taiwan University (China), Xi'an Normal University (Shaanxi, China), etc., and has organized, chaired and participated in many international forums and seminars. He is respected and highly appreciated by international colleagues, not only for his professional capacity and academic depth, but also for his ability to make a strong impression with his goodwill and serious but open-minded working style. It is this international reputation that has helped him connect and build international cooperation in training and research in Political Science, including very successful cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany, Taiwan and China.
Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh has always paid great attention to training a team of young teaching staff with high professional qualifications and good moral qualities. In his leadership and management positions, he has directly received, trained and nurtured many young staff. He has also directly guided and provided professional assistance to many graduate students and researchers. To date, there have been nearly 20 PhDs in Political Science directly guided by him, who are currently teachers and young scientists at many educational institutions nationwide.
Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh always places high expectations on young teachers and scientists who are both solid in professional knowledge and have a deep sense of responsibility towards the country. For him, the biggest goal is not only to train good researchers and political cadres, but also people with the ideal of serving society, contributing to making Political Science a field that actively contributes to the sustainable development of the country and the regime. This is not only a vision but also a passion that he has been and is devoting himself to realizing.
In his mind, politics is not only an art but also a science and vice versa, a political scientist must also reach the level of art and philosophical depth. In everyday life, we can encounter moments of scientist Lai Quoc Khanh with verses of poetry with a gentle and profound Zen flavor. With this philosophy of life, despite being busy with his expertise and leadership and management responsibilities, Mr. Khanh always keeps himself calm, optimistic, leisurely and at ease.
